Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

jwmunson listed his 2006 987.1 Cayman S for sale, saying "This has been my favorite car I've ever owned, but life now demands a back seat so I've upgraded to a 997 Carrera S in the same spec and sadly the Cayman must go." And I have to wonder, how do these two cars compare; why give up his "favorite car"? I can check the specifications on dimensions, horsepower, etc. etc. But in terms of the driving experience, how do these cars differ? For example, for pistols I can shoot a Glock , but I drive the 1911. On the motorcycle I can ride the Concourse, but I am the upper half of the machine on the Ducati. Glock and Kawasaki are practical tools, 1911 and Ducati are a way of life. Which describes a Porsche; any Porsche as far as I am concerned. So, I guess I'm looking for poetry here, but can someone describe the driving experience of the Cayman as compared to the Carrera ? Which way of life am I embracing with each car? I am really looking forward to what you guys have to say.

POST 2Original post

Not EXACTLY apples to apples, but I much prefer my 986 Boxster to my 997.2 generation 911 . While far inferior in power, it just feels more “friendly” to drive. If you don’t need room for small children or dogs, it much more practical to go with the mid-engine design. I thought we would travel more with the pup but it’s never happened. We now wish we would have gone with the Cayman.

POST 3Original post

Well, a couple things to note about this comparison. The 997.2 has a much nicer interior and sufficient power increase to matter. The mid engine 986 is more tossable, lighter and a little more forgiving to drive at the limit (in my opinion). In the end, you like what you like.
