They wound up having to source those through a dealer, which added time, and ultimately pushed everything back by two weeks, though a lot of that was due to their availability and mine as I was traveling.

The blessing-in-disguise part of the story is that I didn't know about the discount when I first scheduled my replacement, but the extra time between appointments was enough that someone who knew about it let me know and I was able to adjust the quote down to the discounted price before they came back out.

I just had a new OEM (I specifically requested OEM) windshield installed on my '02 C2 after the previous one had become so sandblasted that it was getting tough to see.

Hey everyone,
I just had a new OEM (I specifically requested OEM) windshield installed on my '02 C2 after the previous one had become so sandblasted that it was getting tough to see. Had Safelite do the install and at first glance, it appears they did a great job.
Now, I'm wondering if anyone here has any specific experience with one of the clear windshield protection films like those from ClearPlex. The reviews and other threads I've read mention the possibility for waviness or even halo'ing when driving at night. Since car is my daily driver, I spend a lot of time in it. I don't want to be annoyed by clarity issues introduced by film if at all possible. At that point, I'd rather just plan on replacing windshield every few years.
Curious if the waviness or other visual artifacts are still a major concern, and whether or not certain brands or types of films are better than others. I know films have a 2-3 year lifespan, just curious what you all have seen if you've used them or had it installed recently.

Curious how the replacement was with respect to OEM glass request/availability, price, installation and whether you had the ***** to watch them do the deed.
Mine is a mess from pitting and scratches from the wipers, and it drives me nuts in the mornings when headed into the sun.

I was in the same boat as you. No cracks or even major chips in my original glass, but so much pitting and sandblasting that driving into low sun was blinding. I figured it was time.
There didn't seem to be any problems as far as OEM glass availability, but they did have to reschedule my original appointment when they showed up without the accompanying new seals that were also needed. They wound up having to source those through a dealer, which added time, and ultimately pushed everything back by two weeks, though a lot of that was due to their availability and mine as I was traveling.
I didn't have the nerve to watch, but I did peek out of my office while the Safelite guy was working on it a couple times. By the second time I looked, he already had the new glass seated, so it must not have been too bad to get the old glass out.
As for cost, all-in for OEM glass, seals, and labor was going to be just north of $1K. However, I happen to work for a very large customer of Safelite, and we get a very sizable B2B discount, so my cost came in under half of that. I owe that guy a lunch.
At least right now, I'd recommend Safelite. The guys who showed up both times were very professional and seemed like they knew what they were doing. I was a little bummed on the first trip that they didn't bring new seals, so you may want to make sure they quote and bring them just so they don't get missed.
The new glass has only been in for a couple hours, but the fit & finish seem good and I just took it for a drive over lunch with no creaks, excess wind noise, etc.
