Id remove it and open it up and check for water damage or burned traces.......if grommet in the firewall leaks and the drais near the battery are clogged the water will go right into the cabin, you want to check for dampness under the heavy passing under the carpet....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all It has happened 3 times now but only when the car is unlocked. All four windows went down, thinking i'd left them open I closed them again. Within 5mins they all opened again, at first I thought I had sat on the key, but they were indoors in a drawer. I locked the car and all was well again. A few days ago the roof ( it's a cab ) opened of it's own accord whilst the car was unlocked again. The windows had also gone down. I have read the article on the possible cause, micro switches but can't see anything that points to the roof going down, it mentions the windows opening 10cm but not the roof and the windows going all the way down. I also heard the alarm beep twice the other day when locking the car, very unusual, it never normally does that. I also read an article relating to a brass ariel connector on the alarm module, checked that and it appears tight. Can anyone help please. I'm not great with technical or even mechanical issues but would like to try and fix this myself. If it is likely to be a micro switch, which one baring in mind the roof opening? Logically thinking could it be related to the comfort opening as that would control both opening, ie roof and windows, does that have a micro switch somewhere? Any help would be really appreciated. Regards. Mal

POST 2Original post

First place I would look at is the switch in your car that operates the roof. If it were me I would disconnect this switch (requires removing the panel in which the switch is fixed) and seeing if the problem goes away. If it doesn't then, it may be the switch connected to your door key-lock Mine's a coupe, but I can close my roof and windows by holding the key in the door. I think you can operate your roof and windows by doing the same. That means removing the door panel and disconnecting that switch. Either way you are removing panels. Where is the roof switch on the inside of your car located? If it's on the horseshoe surrounding your radio then it's easy. If it's in the console by your shifter it's a bit more work. The door panel will be hardest I would think...I haven't had to do that one yet myself.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for your reply, good point regarding the roof switch and I will try as you suggested. As I type it has not done it again. The switch is on the horse shoe so it's easily to get to. Thank you again for taking time to reply, really appreciated.

One thing you really need to check is for any signs of water under the drivers seat, under the seat is the alarm control module which controls the locks, windows, etc......... Id remove it and open it up and check for water damage or burned traces.......if grommet in the firewall leaks and the drais near the battery are clogged the water will go right into the cabin, you want to check for dampness under the heavy passing under the carpet....
