Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A ~15" piece of wire can be re-used a couple times for this job!
Leading evidence: 'Use couple times' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace day' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I use a legit oil catch pan with a capped pour spout which I empty into a recycle transport container.

In fact, I currently just put 1200 miles on the car and fresh oil change, driving down from Boston to SC (near your neck of the woods, I think).

As anyone who has ever done their oil change knows, the oil comes DUMPING out.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Oil change day for my baby! Only the best for her.
As anyone who has ever done their oil change knows, the oil comes DUMPING out. It gets everywhere no matter how careful you are. Well, there's a solution for that: a small box with the bottom opened up! Now there's no splashing anymore!
Nice. My current
QuickJack
strategy is a 5 gallon bucket with a resealable lid. Oil pours into it and then I take it directly to be recycled. Sealed and all.
I use a legit oil catch pan with a capped pour spout which I empty into a recycle transport container. As for the cartridge? Try two disposable grocery bags, go right around the loosened canister, let the unit drop into the said grocery bags, have some paper towels you were going to throw out anyhow in said bag. Now remove the canister over the drip pan, throw out the tied grocery bags with the cartridge or filter if you like me have a LN spin on converter.
Interested in the shipping, etc. as I'm due for an oil change soon (I think?). Seriously considering the DI-40 5W-40 for the 991.1S engine, which is very expensive. 8qt @ ~$20 = $160 investment, but it would be a one-shot deal.
Yup, got that, trying to assess what the net revenue is after shipping costs. Depending on how much money I retain after this, I may or may not try it in the future.
DI40 is $20/quart x 8 quarts, so $160. Plus the $15 filter and $5 drain plug for a total of $180.
It costs me $25 to ship everything back via UPS. So yes, it's well worth that tiny hassle.
Looked it up online this AM. Shipping could cost anywhere between $20-$60? I'm guessing $30 when all is said and done for many people; much depends on distance and the carrier. FCPEuro is nearby me in in CT, so I'd expect UPS shipping would run me about the $30 when is all said and done. A lot of guys batch all sorts of parts and everything to return at the same time, so YMMV. I'll probably try it the
next
time around.
@theblooms
is in SC, so this tracks. So, that would mean $25 from MA to CT. Again, likely higher for you but nothing catastrophically expensive. Read that some people put a note in the package from Blackstone stating "this is not flammable oil and is lubricataion oil."
Damn near genius! I have tried and failed to solve this problem time after time. One of my attempts I placed the drain pan/ container on top of something and of course once the flow was in full force tipped the pan and had a huge spill. That's where old bath towels become useful.
Thanks for sharing.
My solution to the splashing is to raise the oil drain pan so that there is much less splashing. It also helps to have a great oil drain pan with a wide opening and high capacity. Sometimes I'll carefully center the oil drain pan on one of the Griots mini creeper (
Mini Creeper
), while other times I'll simply prop the pan on top of a half-wheel crib from Race Ramps.
The other tip is to wrap a thin wire around the drain plug once I start to loosen it (using needle nose pliers) - and then I don't have to fish for the oil drain plug in the bottom of the drain pan with a magnet! A ~15" piece of wire can be re-used a couple times for this job!
This is the pan I ordered from Amazon, but it's no longer available.

Looks like this is a replacement, but I don't see it for sale on Amazon:

From the other recent oil thread, I actually decided to give the Driven DT-40 a shot.
@theblooms
- What's your process for cleanly getting all the oil into each of those Driven oils back into their quart containers? Although I won't have to worry about that on this particular oil change, obviously I will once I'm done with it all.
@theblooms
- As what I drained was Mobil 1 0W-40, it wouldn't be ethical for me to return that to FCP Euro. But next time, I'll certainly be sending them the DT-40!
BTW - ZERO lifter tick noise with the DT-40 and color me impressed. In fact, I currently just put 1200 miles on the car and fresh oil change, driving down from Boston to SC (near your neck of the woods, I think). Just arrived in Hilton Head tonight as the HHI Concours is this weekend. Engine is running smoother than ever!
Yes, I know the Concourse was this weekend, and I wanted to go, but I have way too many irons in the fire right now. 😕
It's a great show! Last year there was a Veyron and a 904 there! Have fun!
I noticed no more cold start clatter on the
Boxster
after using the DT40 also.
I haven’t really noticed any changes with the
911
but did get a very solid OA after the last change.
