Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

That said, how does one tighten those bolt with the tires in the way?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2002 996 C2 coupe and I'm installing the M030 kit I got from Gert. Once I got the shock bolt out, the whole suspension hopped up about 2 inches or so. The videos and write ups I've seen simply have the installer getting the shock into place with a jack and wriggling everything into place. But when I try that, the shock tries to move into place and gets stuck on the hub and starts scraping the paint off the shocks. I've tried prying the shock out, blocking the opening in the carrier so the shock can slide by, but it still gets stuck. Even the Bentley basically says just to put the new shock on.
To get the carrier to drop, do I need to pop the ball joint, remove the upper control arms or something else? This is what I'm looking at on both sides of the rear. Thanks in advance.
My guess is that your suspension arms were torqued to spec with the wheels supporting its weight. That's the proper way to do it. Now that it is hanging in the air everything popped up when you disconnected the shock. If you loosen the bolts for the various dog bones etc. you should be able to get the suspension to hang somewhat lower and get your shock bolt lined up. Be sure to re-torque with the wheels supporting the car!
I wound up removing all the bits you mentioned and finally got the right side on, though the left is a hair off to slide the shock bolt through. But thanks so much about reminding me about pre-loading everything - I had forgotten about that.
That said, how does one tighten those bolt with the tires in the way? Would it work just as well to put the wheels on, drop the car to measure from the hub to fender lip, raise it back up and jack up the corner to the right height? Is it okay to do one side and then the other or both at the same time?
Thanks so much.
