Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

We then found the cable and released the hood manually, replaced the battery.

then, rather than using the remote to unlock all the door locks and the hood levers, use the door lock button on the dash.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was unable to drive my 99 996 coupe for over a month and all went dead as well as locking the two cable release levers for front trunk and engine compartment. Drivers manual says this is what a dead battery will do. Battery jump to the c3 fuse armed up and turned off alarm but i still can't get into the battery to jump start it. Manual says "contact dealer" does anyone out there know how to unlock them. John skalet
Look at your owner manual again, based on my manual, page 214.
On my 2003 there is a jumper terminal in the fuse box (by the driver side left foot).
Real simple to do. Using a car battery and some jumper cables, red wire to the fuse box terminal and ground the black wire. Activate switch to open the hood.
Read the directions. Good luck.
my manual says only "contact dealer" they have told me to jump power to fuse c3 which has allowed me to turn off alarm but power door locks that aparently control these levers still has not activated, tomorrow i will jump power to the fuse that controls the power door locks. i will report back. john
99 and 03 Boxsters are completely different in the fuse and trunk release areas.
Once you have opened the car, press the remote to disarm the alarm. The levers should then operate.
with a well charged spare battery, clip power to the lower side of the C 3 fuse. that will power up the alarm module and allow you to turn the alarm off with the remote key. then, rather than using the remote to unlock all the door locks and the hood levers, use the door lock button on the dash. then it unlocks the levers, open the trunk lid, then jump the car battery and you're off and running. Thanks all of you for your help. john skalet ps i'm going to put a small pig tail out the front trunk from the battery so that i can charge it without opening the lid and avoid all this trouble.
Interesting, perhaps related issue today. My father's 2000 996's battery went dead after not driving it for maybe 2 weeks. Typical issue with hood latch and dead battery. Tried in vain to charge it enough via the cigarette lighter to release the hood, although the lights would come on bright in the car, and the engine lid would release. We then found the cable and released the hood manually, replaced the battery. Yet: the hood release lever is still "stuck" despite power, with the car running, etc. IT WILL NOT RELEASE!!?? Any ideas? Could the servo be bad, or is there some ritual to repowering the car after a dead as hell battery (needed radio codes, etc) to get the trunk release lever to work?
