Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I tried switching the relays but I only have one extra so I cannot change both of them.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the high-speed fan hack on my 99 996. The wiring splits and connects to both pin 85s on two relays (for those if you who are familiar with this.) The problem started today. The car ignition wont turn on without that fan switch on-and only one fan is working now when I switch it on. Cases: The switch light comes on and only one fan works. If I leave it off and try to start the car, everything lights up but the ignition wont fire until I turn the switch on. When I flip the switch, the car starts, but the one fan turns off, I have to switch the fan switch on and off again for the one fan to kick on. I tried switching the relays but I only have one extra so I cannot change both of them. Im kinda stumped. At one point today I had a different switch I was using and the wiring got real hot all of the sudden so I quickly disconnect it. Maybe I fried the wires? What do you guys think?

POST 2Original post

I would imagine something is shorted to ground. I would remove the entire hack, inspect and replace if u still need it.

given the car starts an drives when I close the loop (turning the switch on,) its most likely exactly what youre saying. A bad ground or something.
