Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The question is, do I change all the lifters on the same bank, or just those on cylinder 5, are hydraulic lifter failures a common issue?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For some months now, my 996 C4S has suffered an intermittent EML light issue, diagnostics show misfire on cylinder 5. Despite changing the coil pack, fitting a new spark plug and swopping injectors, it still persists. My specialist believes its down to a sticking hydraulic lifter. I should mention revving the engine usually puts the light and warning out, there is a you tube video that shows the same issue. The question is, do I change all the lifters on the same bank, or just those on cylinder 5, are hydraulic lifter failures a common issue? it is something I would not expect at 65.000 miles. I have put some Luqi Moly hydraulic lifter treatment in the motor, not sure how successful it will be, I guess time will tell.
