Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Fill system' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill system' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It is a solidly reliable way to fill all those darn hoses.

You need to use 5 to 6 gallons if ALL of the coolant was previously evacuated properly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I had an accident and radiator got damaged so the coolant spilled out.
The car was in the body shop for 4 months, they don't know how to properly top up the coolant system so I offered to help, I read though the forum here and there are great instructions on how to do it without the vacuum tool.
Anyway, we got the rear end slightly in air, cabin heater to max, opened the bleeder valve, topped up the tank, turned it on, slight revs, topped the tank again and so on. We put about 3 gallons (12 liters) of coolant in.
Temperature was rising steadily and normally, as it got to about middle in the gauge (that's the operating temp) coolant started to spill out of the tank very fast, about half a quart (half a liter) spilled out in a few seconds, we turned off the engine immediately as it looked it got to a boiling point.
Radiator hoses, both top and bottom were cold. There is coolant in the radiator hoses, I can hear them slush, however it seems there is also air inside (can't be sure).
Is it possible that the thermostat is stuck closed by sitting without coolant for months?
Why are you helping the shop?
Why don't they have a vacuum fill system?
3 gallons is just 1/2 capacity. You need to use 5 to 6 gallons if ALL of the coolant was previously evacuated properly.
Is the Pelican tool - $87.29 as good as a uView Filler tool that Ahsai uses in his thread? Curious.
