Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, glad to be here, I just picked up a 2005 tiptronic C2S Cab with just 35,000 kms (21,000 mls) on the clock in midnight blue, used to own a midnight blue 996 Carrera 4 Cab. I have an issue I think with the engine bay fan, I have read all the threads on this issue, but I haven't found an answer that helps me. The engine bay fan never comes on unless the key is in the ignition and the power is on. Some people complain that the fan doesnt stop after the engine is stopped, my issue is the opposite. When back from a long hot drive, the fan is on, I turn off engine and the fan stops. If i turn the power back on in ten or twenty minutes the fan comes on straight away. It seems to me that fan wants to be on, but can't without power from the ignition on. It has just been serviced and I asked this question and the Porsche technicians answer was it has a mind of it's own it does what it needs to do there is no set pattern etc'... What do you guys think? I am going to have the engine bay temp sensor replaced just in case. Cheers guys thank for your help!

POST 4Original post

The engine bay temperature sensor tells the computer that the bay temperature is high enough to require the fan's operation. If, as you say, the fan is already running before you turn off the ignition, then the sensor is performing nominally and changing it out probably won't help your situation...
