I have a buddy with a 997 Turbo and his intake pipe kept coming loose from the intake manifold under high rpms (on the track), until he had it replaced with a different (silicon) pipe.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

I have recently bought a 2008 997 Turbo with 17k kms (10k miles) and I have noticed a heavy sounding rattle all through the rev range after the engine is hot. Whilst it increases in frequency with more rpm it is not proportionate. It sounds like it is coming from the engine area (louder when under the car), but does not sound like valvetrain. Has anyone experienced this before? Geoff.

POST 2Original post

Is the car a 6speed manual? Does the noise go away when you push the clutch in ?

POST 3Original post

Are you getting normal turbo boost? I have a buddy with a 997 Turbo and his intake pipe kept coming loose from the intake manifold under high rpms (on the track), until he had it replaced with a different (silicon) pipe. He would usually lose normal turbo boost when it came loose.

POST 4Original post

Yes it is a 6 speed, but the rattle never goes away. It is not there when the engine is not hot either.

POST 5Original post

I have experienced the intake coupling pipe issue, and have replaced the pipe. Thanks,

POST 7Original post

No not solved. The intake coupler is was a seperate and known issue.

POST 8Original post

Hope it is not too late... Might want to drain the oil into a clean drain pan and check the oil for stuff... Remove the oil filter and cut open the oil filter element and unroll it to see what you can see. The Turbo engine is a good engine but they have been known to get sick. Not the IMS bearing, but at least in one case the bolts holding the gear wheel to the IMS came loose and this put metal in the oil and ruined the oil pump. Engine removal and teardown required to fix. The less you run the engine the better for the engine too. Best to get the car to a qualified shop for professional diagnosis and repair. Sincerely, Rockster.
