But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

Subject to how the car is maintained and used I would say no to an extended warranty in keeping with the advice given by the Consumer Council and Trading Standards for such matters.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 996 has done 9,500 miles and is coming up for its second birthday. (Getting an RS steering wheel as present.) Is it worth extending the warranty for another year? I think that the price is around £800.
Spizz
Probably. Three reasons:
1. It gives you the added protection and security. (Although anything major should be covered under 'goodwill')
2. If you ever tried to sell it privately you would need the official warranty to get a decent price.
3. If you trade it in the dealer can, I believe, get some credit for the remaining warranty.
Hmmmm the £800 question [
] Well with a low mileage car like yours, past experience on how well made your example appears to be and PCGB Goodwill out of warranty attitude towards low mileage, OPC maintained tackle I would say and do what I do in similar circumstances I go for the "NO" option.
On the other hand as Clint Dirty Harry Eastwood would say :-
I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?
Back to you
It's the million dollar question & you won't win either way !
Sods law says if you go for it you WON'T need to claim, but if you don't extend it then you WILL have a problem !! Ho hum the joy's of life. It's also made worse by the fact that you can only extend the "new" warranty once, there after it's a lesser option ! So it's also a question of 1 year extra "or do you need two (or more) sir whilst you have the chance"!
Use a clever & sophisticated method to ensure you make the right decision...toss a coin !
Best of luck.
Its far simpler to buy a new car every two years.
You have the fun of a brand new car for the 1st year and the anticipation of a new car arriving, i.e. test drive, order, final spec etc for the 2nd year.
Then start all over again.
Only glad Porsche don't do 3 year warrenties as the middle year would be very boring.
Regards

In my HO a car of this class and value should run for a lot longer than 2 years without any failure let alone a substantial problem (including the RMS which seems to be a bigger problem that Porsche will admit to). Should the worst happen - I think any reasonable court would agree - what says our legal members?
What are you going to do this time?
I don't think there is going to be a 997 C4S available when the 2 years are up. Do you have your name down for a 997 C2 or will you get one the last 996 C4S's?
Just wondering since I was considering how long to keep mine for, and what to wait for next. When will there be a 997 turbo?
On the original question, I personally would consider extending the warranty. I don't have multiple vehicles, so would prefer the peace of mind, so that whilst the car gets fixed, I only have to fund the rental car (unless they give you a replacement) and not the work to fix it. Of course it is determined by how long you plan to keep the car and how well you have looked after it. If treated with some degree of mechanical sympathy, then it should be barely run in.
