Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone ever noticed when doing a brake job, under normal braking or even track braking, which, if either set, front or rear brake pads, wear out more than the other? I just did a brake job on my 1999 C2 996 and only needed to replace the rear brake pads. Just wondered if this was normal. Can anyone shed light on this subject. Thanks. __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Brake Pedal Switch Replacement / Clutch Pedal Switch Replacement - 986 / 987

POST 2Original post

Yes, in general, the front brakes wear out much quicker than the rears because when you have heavy braking, you have what is commonly known as "weight" transfer to the front brakes. The best way of illustrating this is to think of a trick motorcyclist who slams on his brakes and makes the rear wheel come off the ground while braking. This is an exaggerated circumstance, but you can draw the analogy from this that under normal heavy braking, the rear of the car tends to lift, reducing the amount of weight on the rear (and thus the amount of braking). - Wayne
