As the remote uses a rolling code (new code every lock cycle) if the remote sender has been activated more than 256 times and less than 1024 times with the receiver out of range or while the vehicle battery is disconnected the unit must be resynchronized as follows:

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi guys the key 1 for my car is not working?  key 2 is working! are there  small batteries in these keys? I cant seem to find the info in the manual! any help greatly appreciated

POST 2Original post

I think if it's been left idle for several days it'll 'de-function'. Insert said key into the door lock, unlock and then lock manually and then give it another go via the button..  It should magically start to work again.!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks WOKA I will give this a go tonight so these keys don't use batteries?

POST 4Original post

I am pretty sure the key has a battery. You only need to lift the doorhandle to reactivate the secirity radio in the car which is disabled after standing idle for a week to reduce the rate the car battery discharges at. If one key works and the other does not it is probably key battery. It may also have lost synchronisation with the car. To fix this put the key into the ignition. Some info on this in the manual.

POST 5Original post

Found the spare key but it doesn't have a battery in it. (2032) I must have removed and used it for something else. When I got the car I tried all that I could find to get the spare working - other than dealer reflashing the key. Will get another battery and try again. I previously tried the below and other tips to no avail. RESET PROCEDURE Reset by manually unlocking the car door and whilst the key is still in the door, press the button, lock/unlock button. This re-syncs the electronics if it is time that has caused the car to forget the remote. As the remote uses a rolling code (new code every lock cycle) if the remote sender has been activated more than 256 times and less than 1024 times with the receiver out of range or while the vehicle battery is disconnected the unit must be resynchronized as follows: - Switch on the ignition (ignition key must have the correct transponder). - Switch off the ignition. - Remove the key and press the remote sender button within 6 seconds after the ignition key has been removed The activation counter will then be reset to zero. If the fault lies with the remote, you can reset the remote fob's chip by inserting the button battery in reverse (wrong way round) for a couple of seconds. (ie -+, +-) Opps, OP post is for the 997 key...wrong car/key for me.

POST 8Original post

2032 or 2025 3v lithium battery. The 32 (3.2 mm thick) will last longer but the 25 will still work fine. I just came back from 2 weeks vacay and thought the battery died. - Good to know there is a 'de-function' mode for future
