Probably the driest spell in the market for manuals I have seen since following 996's for the last 12 plus months.

(PS I think I would pleasantly surprise an unsuspecting stock 996 turbo owner who probably would be popping the boot thinking somethings not quite right, must have a boost leak somewhere and I too can get slight wheel spin changing from 3rd to 4th with esc traction on)

19kms for 125k VS 78k , I know where i would spend my money and change the interior on the first car to black with lots and lots of change over ..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, I've just had budget signed off by the better half stone am seriously looking now for a 996tt. Does anyone know anything about the seal grey 996tt in moonee ponds?
Firstly, congrats on getting the sign off .... hardest part of buying a Porsche ...
Just a suggestion .... put up a link to the car so those that might know it can see it.
Cheap if you want a TIP , some funny story with the alloys, spoke to the owner some time ago , been on forever … thats not saying anything is wrong.. I reckon theres room to go down and get a bargain and TIP maynot be everyones cup of tea but at that price… lotta lotta car
I dod sme check on the car seems legit but circumstances changed
Good colour ..interior maybe not for some
If you buy it Im in Melbourne in a few weeks , I wanna quick drive
happy hunting

Not sure if this owner is trying to sell his car or bag the crap out of it or porsche. I thought the TT's didn't have IMS bearings???
Steve
That car has been on for sale for a while also...
19kms for 125k VS 78k , I know where i would spend my money and change the interior on the first car to black with lots and lots of change over .. thats if i couldnt live with the brown
full of big claims, this guy. He is wrong about IMS, doesn't affect Mezger. He is right about coolant line failure although Aussie Porsche specialists seem unfazed by it, most have never seen it despite seemingly many cases in U.S. on Rennlist.
I suspect 800hp and $80k are exaggerated claims too.
I reckon an 800hp turbo is more likely to kill you than stock 465hp GT2. I don't think AWD , TC/SC will save you from yourself! Both are dangerous in the wrong hands.
I hereby state that to save you from your own bad taste, that henceforth ALL dashboards and steering wheels SHALL be black no matter what weird arse colour you order the seats and carpet.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I've always had manual cars so this would normally be my preference although the TIP means no overevs & it would make my occasional 6km trip to work (& 20 - 45 minutes
) when I don't take the bike much easier. Most of the cars I've seen for sale are TIP so either there weren't many sent down under or they're all being hoarded.
Cab vs coupe? I would prefer the coupe although getting my nieces into the back of a cab is probably easier. Cab TT looks a bit odd to my eyes because of the wing.
Dash's should always be black 100%, always. I'd be more worried about resale though than actually sitting in a car with a blue, orange or brown interior. On a Sunday morning run I'm more interested in looking at the trees & cars that I don't want to hit than looking at the interior
You would not be disappointed with a tip TT... they haul ass!
I would daily one for sure.
Albeit a little on the pricey side, this would probably be my pick of the current offerings. ->

RR is known to sell good examples.
You are 100% correct, AWD just means you're going faster when you crash it...
Hi Edgy, I do like the look of this one, I saw it pop up on Carsales last week
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Porsche-911-2002/OAG-AD-12034181/?Cr=1
- if only it had a black interior & was a little cheaper. It does look really well cared for & only two owners
though.
All the manuals are now being hoarded. I'd hang out for one of those, its a much better drive particuarly if your commute is only 6-10k, manual will also be worth more (now) and in the long term.
I don't mind that interior.. its different, has some nice contrasts, appears to be full leather pack, BOSE audio and the silver instrument dials look different. Personally I don't find it offensive like some of the interiors offered in the 996.
I have an all black interior and its not that spectacular! Although the carbon & leather helps to makes it nicer.
Everyone here is going to tell you that your better buying on condition above all else, if it costs a little more than a car with 4 owners, more miles and aftermarket wheels so be it.
SERIOUSLY CEEJAY, that blue one is a nice car.. i was talking to edgy on weekend about how good these cars are, and that one looks a peach
the blue on blue is great
the least i would do is call and try to guage how fixed they are on price
uf youre cashed up everyone negotiates
good luck
i think 996tt are the next big thing to go
Hi
Bit of a newbie on this this forum and also looking to move into a 996 turbo . But just when my Minister of FInance also signs off for me to pull the trigger on on 996 turbo, there is not a manual anywhere except for the modified 996 in Perth that has floated between 110 and 125k for the last 6 months. Probably the driest spell in the market for manuals I have seen since following 996's for the last 12 plus months. In terms of spending 80k on mods to get 700 to 800hp, call me a newbie, but I reckon that's what it would cost me to get to that horsepower. I have my project planned to take a stock 996 turbo to around 600 - 650hp with just bolts ons (built around billet k16's) which may put the engine in rod bending terrority based on the increased torque accompanying the extra horse power if not tuned right. Parts alone for what I plan for that will be circ 25k, then add workshop labour to install. If you are going 700 plus, (his turbo's on that car from the pics appear to be capable of 700 plus hp, then rods must be done and its not going to stop there once you open up the motor so I can easily see 40k for an engine rebuilt with rods (had that confirmed by two shops, hence why I am limiting my project to boltons and less power). Throw in a much more heavy duty clutch and intake mods that is on the car, can see the 80k quiet easy. When it was at 110k, if you wanted to step into a 700hp plus car, I reckon that's really cheap, because I don't see how you can get anywhere near that taking a stock one and trying to get to that horse power reliably based on what I have researched. Not the direction I want to take, eg like taking a stock car keeping it looking absoluley stock, except for suspension (coilovers) and then lots of subtly go fast mods under the bonnet that only an enthusiast would notice and go through the process of doing it how I want it done and notice the differences as the mods are done.
PS Hopefully I can get my hands on a nice stock manual that ticks most of my boxes soon , and you might hear another fellow Porsche enthusiast with a familiar note (Kline 100 cell exhaust and basic tune will be the first mods I will be doing) around Mt Eliza village. But I am realistic and not expecting to find one that ticks most of my boxes for at least a year.
I agree that big HP = big $. I was questioning whether the claim was legit in relation to that car.
600-650hp is definitely into rod bending territory. $40k - $45k is about the mark for a full Mezger rebuild, carillo rods, mahle pistons and barrels, timing chains, gaskets, head recon valves, springs etc. Add $15k for a core engine if your rods let go and destroy the crankcase. Allow a few months to find an engine too! If chasing big power, I'd be investing in bottom end rebuild/strengthen for sure.
have you driven one? Mine has upgraded EVOMS turbos. wastegates and exhaust and ecu tune and make somewhere in the high 500s. I've driven some fast cars but this is too fast for the road and plenty fast for the track in amateur hands. I can't imagine what you could possibly do with another 200+ HP.
I'm taking mine back to Fitzgerald tomorrow for service. When I get it back, I'd be happy to take you for a ride some time if you're local.
Just noticed the boost gauge marker at 2.3 bar in that ad. Holy shit, stock is around 0.9 I believe, mine runs 1.1-1.2 max. 2.3 bar is 33 psi....! Methinks grenade!
Agree with DJM you really don't need to chase that much power.
I've got UMW's 2A Zero Clearance kit on my 996TT which runs the 997 GT2 wheels in the K16 package along with a Europipe and GT3RS clutch kit to hold it down, it makes 100kw more at all 4 wheels than stock and traps at 125-127 mph.
My 997/2 is essentially stock apart from a full Akro system and RS tuning rework of the ECU. Its way too fast for the road and starts to turn the tyres in 3rd gear, I haven't had it down the strip yet but its easily a 130+ mph car and
much
faster than the turbo.
The 996 is such a good platform that I really don't think you need more than 550-600 hp
Smit, top tip - take DJM up on his offer. His car is face bending and he can pilot it to do just that, you'd be wasting your time and a good car to pursue the HP your seeking.
Are you from a muscle car background by any chance?
Hi,
Yes, I will definitely be reaching out to DJM
I learnt a long time ago, never judge a book by its cover. LOL
My car background is analogous to a changing palette and appreciation of red wine as I age.
That is in my earlier years I was into locally made and modified V8's (cheap cask / bottled red wine and influenced by my environment / income)
As the income increased, so to did my taste based on what I could afford. I moved into a late nineties wrx and ventured into researching and adding go fast bolt on bits / tunes over time as the novelty of the previous mod wore off (ala moved across to experience middle of the range international bottles of red (shiraz's / cab sav's/ merlot's)
Hooked on the power delivery of turbo's as opposed to wait, a bit, bang and constant surging v8's (not going back to cask / cheap bottles of red) and as I further matured, I didn't like the unwanted attention that comes with wrx ownership (ala hangovers after an unplanned drinking session / boy racers everwhere and boys in blue after dark) which was topped off by my two year old in the back seat saying one day daddy daddy this car is too loud. (ala last hang over from drinking those international reds / 3inch custom rally designed exhaust on those boxer engines can get loud). So wanted something totally unassuming, baby seat friendly, European, turbo'd, tuneable and responsive to bolt on mods for additional HP/ awd . So based on that criteria, I moved into an Audi b5 s4. (ala found an appreciation for boutique Margaret River reds). Have owned that car for 7 years ( but regretted not buying a b5 rs4 from the outset) because over that time I have taken the b5s4 from stock to just recently finishing a stage 3 project that took nearly two years (based on hybrid loba k04 turbo's ) with half the build incorporating b5 rs4 parts and replicating performance of a tweaked b5 rs4.. Currently just sorting out some tuning and will have taken it from stock to current circ 450hp and expect to get it to 500hp. So I too am a little familiar with bending the face of an unsuspected passenger when you tramp on it in second and those twin turbo's spool up to 24-psi and taper down to 22psi where they starting boosting at low 2000 rpms and kicks you back in the seat and holds up to about 6000 rpms and then the Alcon 350mm setup upfront doesn't do a bad job of pulling pig heavy front end up.
(PS I think I would pleasantly surprise an unsuspecting stock 996 turbo owner who probably would be popping the boot thinking somethings not quite right, must have a boost leak somewhere and I too can get slight wheel spin changing from 3rd to 4th with esc traction on)
I have now matured again in terms of current situation / circumstance and time for another next project (some would say its a midlife crisis) and i have been researching capabilities for go faster bits and tuning and trials and tribulations of 966 twin turbo ownership along with and keeping an eye on the market over the last 12 to 18 months. The kick in pants feeling of full boost of a twin turbo is pretty addictive and I think the 996 turbo is the full package in terms of iconic brand (remember always eager to see if a new 930 turbo at a particular customers place would be in the driveway when I used to do a milk run as a kid years ago and thought I would like a Porsche one day), handling in terms of chassis, weight, suspension and braking which takes performance to another level in stock guise compared to what I have owned and with some bolt on mods, takes it supercar status that doesn't require me to sell both my kidneys and some other body parts . So having got used to the 450 plus hp in my audi, time for something more. Taking a 996 turbo and adding bolt ons that pushes the limit on the motor and documenting the process and proving feedback to others perhaps on this and another forum is my next planned project. (analogous to always aware of a bottle of Penfolds grange bin is up their as one of the true great red wines, but can't afford that vintage or blend (993 turbo) but can afford and want to acquire and develop a pallete for a classic 1990's vintage of Penfolds bin cab sav. (996 turbo). Perhaps just my first phase of planned mods of k16 billets , stage 1 tune, exhaust and 5bar pressure regulator, bmc air filter will be enough (circ 550) and no need to go phase 2 eg 1000cc injectors, ipd plenum, , bigger throttle body, 997 upgraded intercoolers, upgraded sach clutch, pin coolant pipes and then just focus on suspension
PS Given I think its going to be my last project and I suspect it will take me some time to pickup a 996 manual that tcks the boxes along with the mods I want to install, its going to be enjoyed, driven and hoarded in that I don't plan on selling it.
Bang for buck, I can't see anything that beats it and like the audi b5s4/ rs4 they appear they have been underated up to now (murphy.'s law, when I am ready to pull the trigger non available). No doubt the 996 turbo manual owners are saying, tell me something I don't know and I'm
holding onto mine
Nice plan
I forgot and reading your post reminded me, I've got the 5 bar and 997 RS intercoolers on my 996. The RS coolers are a fantastic mod and defiantly worthwhile doing bang for buck and power wise. It puts a lot more power through the upper mid range.
