Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For example, if I'm removing a front bumper cover to clean out the radiators, I always take the time to thoroughly clean (usually with Optimum No Rinse) the front of the car and behind the bumper cover.

Recently changed the taillights on my 997 and may have spent more time cleaning the area behind the lights than the actual install.

Now, a dedicated track car is a bit different but I still would clean a bit there too.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Its a good time, but I hate changing my oil around them because I take my time checking and double checking everything and I inevitably take 3x longer than most people...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

sheesh (them) easy peasy 15 minute job (me) after one hour still not done....
Is there anyone else here that thinks that when someone says this job should take you about an hour they should clarify if thats the normal person time or the OCD person time?!
I installed some LED lighting on my lift today (20-30 min job according to the paperwork) and after having to sand a few spots and repaint, clean, put the lighting in, route the cables, reroute the cables, clean up the reroute so I could reroute again then cable tie everything down, it definitely took longer hahahahaha.
My guess is that there are a high percentage of Porsche owners who indeed are undiagnosed with OCD. Whatever time you tell your wife/mistress/buddy it will take, it will take 4x as long. That's the way it works here. Indeed, even if it appears to be a simple DIY, if I want to get it done and not burn a whole day, I have to give the job to my Indie.
Took me 14 hours to change my coolant tank. AND...
More importantly, I planned to do it over 4 days and to stop after 3 hours to deal with the frustration and providing enough hours to address the OCD component of the coolant tank replacement which of course included engine mounts and the porsche plastic coolant fitting replacement with a metal one.
My engine mounts are sitting waiting for me to install them, planned on this weekend. Was just thinking yesterday, maybe I should order the coolant tank and just do it at the same time. Nothing wrong with mine right now, but Im unsure if its ever been replaced so I have to assume its 20 year old. What was so time consuming with the coolant tank? Thanks.
Also, kind of on topic but not really, I used to struggle with this badly when I first went into business (remodeling) I would spend sooo much time on tasks and details that would only matter to me, other carpenters and maybe 10% of clients or less. I made sure each and every miter was magazine quality, glued, clamped and sometimes even pocket screwed, they were bomb-proof. I would spend hours laying things out to perfection, then by the time I got rolling actually working, it was halfway through the day, lunch time, starving, but I cant stop now I just got started. So I skipped lunch, worked until exhaustion, left the job late, stopped to eat whatever ****ty food I could grab on the way home, not sit down and eat dinner with my wife, etc etc. All while not making a healthy profit due to the above, rinse, repeat a vicious cycle. I once removed an entire run of cabinetry because the C/L of the sink base was off by ~3/8 from the C/L of the window above the sink. The client would never notice, but in my head at the time, if anybody else walked in and noticed that, it would have been detrimental to my business. Not the case at all.
Things like this would eat into my profits, and whatever profits I had left, went into better finishing techniques using better tools, again which only I really cared about. Then at a point you find a healthy balance and even though it might sound bad at face value, putting 90% effort into a home remodeling project is generally more than adequate for majority of clients. Just like driving at 7/10ths, or singers on tour that sing at 80%and nobody notices.
edited to add: I do not have OCD lol I was just over-infatuated with perfection in my work.
I don't think I have ever finished a DIY car project in the time it is said to take...and yes, I do have OCD. HAHA
I think these estimated times are given by those who want to make themselves appear to be master mechanics. Like, "yeah, I changed that switch in less than 10 min.," or "...20 minute job tops." Hell, it takes me more time than that just to get my tools ready.
Ahhhh, so good to hear this is common hahahahaha. Ive never been diagnosed BUT as I age I catch myself and wonder.
Recently changed the taillights on my 997 and may have spent more time cleaning the area behind the lights than the actual install. All good though, I know its clean now when I get in the car!
This is so on point, after being a "techie" in the Royal Air force, and emigrating to the USA, i took the first job available to me in a Pontiac dealership, what a culture shock, i couldn't believe how fast these mechanics could do things, even stuff they hadn't done before, it took me ages to get my speed up and i still wasn't at there level after a year, the system of paying those guys by the job promoted corner cutting, even good mechanics would look for ways to shave time off a job..
so here i am 25 years on, and when i choose to work on my car it takes me ages to do stuff, i double triple check stuff go back and re-do things, learn as i go, looking over and under my glasses, taking them on and off to see properly, get in and out the car 15 times to get another tool that might make it easier... sheesh (them) easy peasy 15 minute job (me) after one hour still not done....
I usually plan for double or triple the time given in any tutorial. I take things slow, am OCD and you always need to account for the cleanup part after any job.
It also takes me 4X as long to get repairs and upgrades done on the house (without the OCD factor). Every job has it's rabbit-hole where time-money gets dragged in, never to be seen again as it crosses the discontent horizon.

Also, I cleaned a lot of stuff up. Engine bay is quite clean but look dirty in pics.
I always do this as well. For example, if I'm removing a front bumper cover to clean out the radiators, I always take the time to thoroughly clean (usually with Optimum No Rinse) the front of the car and behind the bumper cover. I could not stand putting the car back together with it still being dirty. Now, a dedicated track car is a bit different but I still would clean a bit there too. HAHA
We have an "Oil Change Night" amongst our group of local gearheads where a few people change their oil amongst the peanut gallery. Its a good time, but I hate changing my oil around them because I take my time checking and double checking everything and I inevitably take 3x longer than most people...
