Also, an FYI for those considering to mod their mounts I opted for the 3m Window Weld mod on my brand new Rein mountsI let them cure for nearly 4 days, seemed very solid and like it was going to work out wellas soon as I started tightening the lower nuts, all that window weld started to ooze out, uncured.

Suggestion

The tip adjustment is best described as clunky, and its actually far easier as a two man job - slacken pinch bolt just sufficiently to enable the tip to articulate, move it to where it needs to be, then get you partner in crime to tighten the pinch bolt as you hold it firmly in position.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all I just got done swapping engine mounts, and my exhaust stills are still uneven, in the same way they were before (drivers side lower) I havent torqued the bottom nuts down fully yet (need a larger torque wrench) but I cant imagine that tightening that last bit will make the difference, as it looks exactly as it did before. want to see if theres something Im missing? Also, an FYI for those considering to mod their mounts I opted for the 3m Window Weld mod on my brand new Rein mountsI let them cure for nearly 4 days, seemed very solid and like it was going to work out wellas soon as I started tightening the lower nuts, all that window weld started to ooze out, uncured. Must have just skinned over but I would have imagined 4 days would have sufficed. So thats another issue/mess Ill have to clean up.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Old vs new The new modded rein mounts Drivers side, losing the Windo-Weld Passengers side, less loss of Windo-Weld. Now I worry about the 2 mounts not having equal rigidity. Should have just opted for Semi Solids, but this mod sounded like the perfect balance between stock and Semi Solid, kind of like a Semi-Semi-Solid.

POST 4Original post

Yaz996 is right. The tips may be adjusted separately. Is it possible that the people who suggest using window weld are using them for mounts UNDER the engine and not for mounts that hang upside down?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 19332614, 19332997

thank you, both. I have tried to adjust the one tip in the past and I thought I got it as far as I could. Ill give it another shot. as far as the window weld mod, Ive seen it on many 996 specific posts with seemingly successful results but Im not thrilled with the results. Just got back from a nice drive, the new engine mounts definitely made a difference. Also, changed the oil while I had the car up, and by mistake, FCP sent me a case of XP9 instead of DT40! Obviously OK to run for a short period of time, but another oil change will be in the near future

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19333260

this was the 4th oil change in ~5k miles, but over almost 3 years of ownership.

POST 8Original post

I just did engine mounts and my tips are off too. I have a Fabspeed exhaust also so not sure about the adjustability. I think PO my have nudged one of the tips parking. I just bought a quickjack set up to get a closer look (amongst other things).

The tip adjustment is best described as clunky, and its actually far easier as a two man job - slacken pinch bolt just sufficiently to enable the tip to articulate, move it to where it needs to be, then get you partner in crime to tighten the pinch bolt as you hold it firmly in position. As a one man job youll find it almost certainly shifts every time you tighten the pinch bolt up AND they can and do shift as they heat up fully for the first time after adjustment Heres what they should look like : Now about the window bonding gunk The last time I had windows fitted in my house, the fitter didnt use muffler sealing paste. Go figure

POST 10Original post

The quoted cure time is for windshield applications, where you don't have a huge thick layer of material to cure. I used to leave it for over a week even in applications where the engine mount was a nice bucket that keeps the goop inside. With upside-down mounts like 911's you now know it's better to err towards longer.

If you don't mind a little more road noise, go with the semi-solid mounts. I bought the RSS mounts and that made a big difference in the handling of the car.
