Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've used a vac pump with gauge to test and find I can operate the right side -and I can hear it- and vac is held.
Leading evidence: 'Use vac pump' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair pse vacuum valve (dashpot?) or it's hose' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I need to repair the PSE vacuum valve (dashpot?) or it's hose on the left side of my 2000 996.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to repair the PSE vacuum valve (dashpot?) or it's hose on the left side of my 2000 996. Just a note; this model has no switch but it is somehow modulated by the DME so has a vac switch that directs vacuum to the two dashpots on the muffler bypass's which, on this model, entirely bypass some exhaust via a 1" pipe from input side to the exhaust tip. I've used a vac pump with gauge to test and find I can operate the right side -and I can hear it- and vac is held. On the left no vac will build so there must be a leak in the dashpot or the last 8" of hose I can't reach or even see from under the car. OK, sorry for all that detail but my Q for now is: How do I drop the left muffler? It appears easy but is it? Would it be better to remove the rear valence? Exactly how is that done? ie where are the screws, clips, etc? thanks, jvm
Jack it up and secure it, jack stand(s), on the side to be removed.
Take the wheel off.
Loosen the two bolts on the muffler to cat clamp, on the left side, under the rear of the car.
Slide the clamp toward the cat until you can see the seam.
Remove the three
Nuts
, facing the engine. they hold the muffler to the bracket.
drop the muffler down to get to the vacuum line.
Remove your vacuum line.
Slide, wiggle, curse the muffler down and out towards the front. Its awkward and a little HEAVY. It is actually pretty easy to drop forward and out.
First time will take you ~30 minutes next time 10.
Tnx for quick reply, FB111. I think I will have time this eve to do that, tho my wife hates to see one of our cars go on stands thinking it will be up there for weeks. She also likes the loud exhaust but I think it is to raspy and harsh esp around the 'hood. Next project is adding a switch. Know of any good links for adding a switch? tnx again, jvm
