Just about get my new 2012 991 - 911. It does not have the Bose upgrade stereo and just wondering what the stock stereo is like? Thinking may need to upgrade the speakers and amp? Has anyone done an upgrade on a new 911 with speakers? If so what kind do you recommend?
Can't wait to get the new 991 but a little worried about the Stereo (I am sure for the first few drives I won't even turn on the stereo).
Look forward to any recommendations or thoughts.
Michael
So far, I only use the stereo in 7th gear in highway cruising..the Sport Exhaust on the 991 is just too good
Coming from a premium BOSE sound-system in my M3 and going to a "standard" setup in the Spyder, I can tell you that the difference
to me
was minimal (especially if you're more of a "driver" than a "commuter"). I drove both cars 400miles back-to-back with my tunes playing the whole way, and my (admittedly) aging ears still got the same enjoyment coming back with the Spyder from the mp3's that were blasting out of my usb stick (although the engine/exhaust sound trumps both!).
The new 991 and 981 stereos are better than the 987 and 986. My 2011 Cayenne with PCM 3.1 sounded a lot better than my Cayman R with PCM 3.0. I would wait to hear your stereo first it may suffice. I redid the stereo in my Cayman R but left the stereo in the Cayenne. I also listen to a stereo in the 981 with PCM 3.1 and it sounded fine.
I have a 2007 911 4S w/ the premium bose sound system. I think it sucks. I don't know if I am not adjusting the treble etc properly or it just sucks. CD's sound muffled and you can't crank the volume at all. Anybody got suggestions or do i really need a new system. I don't really want to get a new system. My wife has a Range Rover and I think that has the best sound system i have ever heard. The porsche doesn't come close. Pls don't tell me to turn of stereo and listen to motor. I do that when I am really driving the car but when you are just cruising to the beach and maybe in traffic, i want to hear cranked tunes.
I thought maybe it is just b/c the cabin is so small that you can't get good sound in there?
It's just the Bloze system. See if there is a "Linear" setting; it will eliminate most of the re-processing that Bloze does not do well.
I have a '13 911 that i bought off the lot. It came with the standard stereo. It may be me but the stereo is pretty bad, in fact really bad. Muddy sound, no clear highs or lows, little separation, as bad as i can remember in any car that i've had for a long time. I pod with cord lousy too. Any thoughts on how to improve it? Quite surprising for a car that costs this much!
