There were several "levels" of seats; manual, power front/back only, power everything, memory/no memory, etc.) Each had is own harness due to the number of seat control switches, and none of the harnesses can be retrofitted; you have to replace the entire interior harness (read big bucks).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i am attemting to put in a set of c4s seats into my 986. Passenger side is working just fine. On the driver side there is only the black control box and no female connectros to accept the male connectors from the chassis. My question: On a 996 driver side does the chassis wiring connect into the black box or is the particular seat that I got missing an harness. If there a missing harness it does not look like anything was cut off by the previous owne. thank you

POST 2Original post

There are several different models of seats for both cars, each car was wired to match the seats it shipped with. Seats from another car may bolt in, but car may not have the harness to match.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How laborious and costly is a retrofit? Should I just look for boxster seats?

POST 4Original post

The seat mounting itself is the same in both cars, it is the wiring that creates the headache…..

POST 5Original post

If you read through the wiring diagrams, you can certainly make it work but it will be some work and wiring. Put a set of 996 full power seats in a 944 many years ago which was not equiped with power seats. You CAN hardwire it with terminal 30 and the seats would be operable with or without the ignition on. You can also install a relayed power supply tapped into a terminal 15 switched power and run a terminal 30 lead for relay supply, output to consumer.
