Hi all,
I've read all the threads (I think) and can't find the answer to this:
I've got the GW500 installed, iPod plays, sounds great but no text. USB plays fine with text. Updated to 2.18 firmware which killed my BTA1500 functionality as well (connects to phone but no text). Did the 3on,3off thing and set to +paging. So, all this is symptomatic of needing the dealer to code for CDC but the various threads seem to say it's not going to help. I'm scheduled to take her in tomorrow for coding and was wondering if someone can tell me what to ask for beyond just "code the car as if it has a CDC" or is that enough? Hoping to get it right in 1 visit...
Also, what position should the switch on the AUX box be in when I go in for coding (as opposed to just general service), since I'm trying to test out whether or not it works?
Thanks in advance,
Byron

I've had an issue where the first song that plays might say something like "track 17" but then when the next song plays the artist and title comes on. If you aren't getting text at all then it sounds like something is defective with the gw500 unit. I don't think coding for the CDC will make any difference but I guess you can try that just to rule it out. I would assume the Aux box needs to be in the normal run mode not programming mode for when you go in.
So, I had the car coded to accept a CD Changer per the install instructions ("Activated CD Changer" per the repair order) and there is no change to the GW500 interface. I only get Track 01 through Track 99 and no list of albums, artists, configuration options, etc. Using the USB stick, I get artist, title, and album correctly. Using my Bluetooth phone (Blackberry 8830) I can call out from the phone but not the dialpad on the dash, and the interface and phonebook is not being listed. I forgot to mention I have PCM 2.1
Any ideas, anone? Is GW500 the Dension guy listening? Did I do something wrong?
Thx

Also, forgot to mention that the ipod is completely controllable from the ipod UI while connected and does not ever display a splash screen when connected. I verified the firmware version by peeking at the .bin file after the USB update. It shows 2.18 correctly. I have a 1st Gen Nano and a new iPod Touch.
OK, ipod text issue resolved! The GW500 has to be in Ipod GW mode and I couldn't get it there. Here's how on my car (2008 997):
To select Ipod GW, Aux, etc I:
- press CD (ipod will start playing)
- press audio button at bottom of PCM (you won't get text on the main PCM screen)
- press and hold "6" to select the source
- On right hand side of screen you have CD list and track list
- Select track list and push right knob
- see Ipod GW, select it by with the right knob and press right knob
- AND THIS WAS THE KICKER -
- then hold FF for a few seconds and iPod GW mode is now magically active
- Good to go
The Bluetooth functionality still is sub-par, can not dial phone from the screen or in-car keypad. Dialing from the phone works fine and mutes audio, etc. Phonebook is not accessible. Blackberry 8830. Any thoughts?
Bluetooth Update:
Dension Suggested downrev-ing to 2.16 firmware, which fixed the problem. Note: it takes a looong time to sync the phonebook and you can't dial the phone form the car until the phonebook is done syncing. With 2.18, the phonebok never finished syncing, hence (?) the problem. Sorry if this is all old news.
I think it depends on the number of contacts you have. I had over 500 in my address book and had all sorts of problems synching and as you said until it is done with the synch you can't do much. I made a sub folder in outlook under contacts for rarely used contacts but ones I didn't want to delete and I moved a bunch of contacts there leaving fewer in my main contacts folder and fewer that ended up on my phone. After I did that the phone was able to synch and did so faster.
The problem is that nothing is held in memory after you disconect the phone so every time you connect you have to resynch the whole address book, it would be nice if it only had to synch changed contacts as it would go much faster and allow you to dial your contacts stored in the car's memory with say a different Bluetooth phone etc.
I can live with the way it works but it could be better.
