i'd be tempted to do the mod posted above and failing that just replace the mufflers..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my 997c2 is rather quiet and refined.... Too Quiet ..... So, standing on the edge of a precipice of modifications, what do you guys reckon will give my 997 a nicer sound?

POST 2Original post

Fisters? http://fdmotorsports.net/category/fister-exhaust-997 I agree the 997's are very quiet.. a 997 was at a set of lights that i was crossing.. i could barely hear the engine as it rolled up

POST 3Original post

i hear akrapovic is great build quality and sound. personal experience is fabspeed went quite nice on the 996

POST 6Original post

Simple, yet effective. http://www.renntrack.com/forums/showthread.php?184-PSE-Exhaust-Hack-quot-GUNDO-HACK-quot

POST 7Original post

Akrapovic do sound the business but not made for my car. I use a fabspeed and love the sound and the finish is first class too. Won't go wrong with either

POST 8Original post

Orion, just looking through their website and Im not sure they still make the 997.1 exhaust any more.

POST 9Original post

Yep - my listing from Akrapovic doesn't show anything for 997.1. Just to throw another brand into the mix, there are also exhausts by Dansk (better known for their exhausts for air cooled cars) which are suitable for the 997.

I know of someone who dropped something like $12k on an akra for his 1M and it wasn't even the whole system! I could only imagine what an akra with "Porsche tax" would cost...

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone in Melbourne done this before?

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 66364

ouch... the fabspeed system was 3-4k shipped and i was bitching about that lol. i'd be tempted to do the mod posted above and failing that just replace the mufflers..

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 66373

that's not bad $$$ considering the quality of the system! I do want to change out to the cup centre exit muffler eventually though.... keeping the fabspeed headers this is

POST 14Original post

i actually want a centre exit muffler for the SC but there isn't much i can find that will suit

POST 16Original post

have you checked out Carnewal in Belgium?? I got one for my Cayman S..... the sound, as Larry David from Curb would say, is pretty pretty pretty pretty... pretty good. Well, I like it.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQb7mZRDxWo

Remus or Sharkwerks I know someone who got a Sharkwerks exhaust imported for his 997 GT3 and he had no problems getting it shifted and was happy with the result

POST 19Original post

i think it is too restrictive for 3.6!

POST 20Original post

This where I got my fabspeed Click Here Not sure if any cheaper but may be worth seeing what they charge for your model

POST 21Original post

Mal has a Sharkwerks exhaust in his GT3. Sounds amazing.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 66069

Has anyone used the Fisters on a 997?  They seem very cheap?  Are such available in Australia?  Not looking for performance gains but only a nicer note ...

POST 23Original post

I gather that these are a polished version of the so called 'Gundo hack' process, that can easily be done locally by a competent exhaust shop.  Any one done this?

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 66364

Lets just say you could rebuild your 964 engine again including bottom end for the same money

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 77372

A full rebuild for $12k? Bargain!

POST 26Original post

Gday Merv, I recently removed the mufflers from my 996 and had the local exhaust shop do the "Gundo Hack". From what I can see the 997 mufflers look pretty much the same. After looking on youtube, this is pretty much the change in noise you can expect. Cheers Steve

POST 27Original post

Big difference!  One road is that noise a drone problem?

POST 28Original post

My 997 has the factory sports exhaust, and it doesn't sound like that Tubi. (I'm assuming here the sports exhaust and the gundo sound similar). I generally only open the exhaust when I see an onramp as it also puts the PASM into sport as well. In my car at least I don't notice a whole lot of drone, 997s have a whole heap of sound deadening in them. I need to roll down the windows to get the full effect of the exhaust.

POST 29Original post

Thanks for that.  There is the Gundo and the Fister I gather.  They are different in configuration.  I seem to be only able to attach one here due to file size limitations (I have reduced to almost nothing ...)

POST 30Original post

To confuse you further Merv, there's two methods of doing the hack. One works with the 996 where the inlet and outlet are joined. The other is either 996.2 or 997(can't remember) where the cap on the corner is cut out and a third pipe is connected from the cap to the outlet pipe.

POST 31Original post

I will have to look for some schematics I guess.  Post 18 here shows the two types: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/997/342588-i-would-like-order-1-gundo-hack-please-2.html

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

bring up an old topic... I asked AutoArt about exhaust and he recommended a M illi Miglia exhaust made up in Sydney. Any body here know about them? $2K + for the exhaust.

POST 33Original post

Gundo hack with a Cat bypass from Fabspeed.  Low $$'s before investing in a full system.  Alternatively, I reckon a set of Fabspeed headers with straight through pipes would be riotous! As soon as my car can't be warranted anymore, I'm going full riot!
