Not a lot of use to me as a 993 owner, but I'll guess I'll use my connections and see what can come of it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anybody know of a UK source for the B&M short shifter? I can find plenty in the US but google doesn't give me anybody locally. Anybody in the UK fitted one themselves ?

POST 2Original post

Porscheshop sell them. I've looked at these a few times, but it seems so much for so little metal... Let us know if you like it! (Demon Tweeks sell them as well)

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Would also be interested if you do. On US fora they say it is essential kit. How much does it cost here? Will Porscheshop fit it? Where are they located? Spizz

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cannot find it on Porschshop or DT website - have emailed them for details will keep you posted

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

GMackie Look forward to getting this info - thanks. Spizz

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

GMackie - any more news about short shifters? Spizz

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry Spizz not been on the forum for a little while. To date I have had no response to any of my mails to Demon Tweeks etc. If I get a moment I will try and make a few phone calls next week. Tried to mail B&M in the States but they don't 'do' e-mail...[ ] Anybody else got any ideas where to get B&M in the UK ?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried Tech 9 - but no response. I found a couple of sites which did short shifters for subarus - but non for porsche. Is this a US phenomenon perhaps? Let me know if you have any luck. I will do likewise. Spizz

POST 9Original post

Demon Tweeks list it in thier 2004 catalogue (and they also had it in the 2003). I have seen (picked up and toouched) the actual item at PCGB events on the PorscheShop stand. Someone should have it?!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Mark. Will try and check out on line. Will an OPC fit it? Do DT have a fitting service? Spizz

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fella's If you are still interested and there is enough demand, one of my good friends is the President of B&M Racing. I could see what he could do and if people want them, I could get him to send them over for me. Not a lot of use to me as a 993 owner, but I'll guess I'll use my connections and see what can come of it. Let me know your thoughts though... I do beleive there are other outlets in the UK. And although he's a mate and I know them them well (they are at Autosport this week if anyone is going so you can chat to them there) I have had a B&M shifter (naturally) on a few previous cars and it has always made a hell of a difference. Yes, they are expensive but when you see it and feel it you know why, and the difference is excellent. Pity they don't do one for my car! Andy

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Count me in as long as the shipping etc doesn't send the price through the roof. I am assuming that $200 will translate into not a lot less than £200 as it often seems to [ ] whatever the exchange rate. However if you can get a good deal I will drive down to Surrey and buy you a pint.. Anybody else?

POST 14Original post

I shouldn't be saying this - but dependant on price, I'm interested too (bigger discount for a bulk order? [ ] )

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...by the way, who will fit? Presumably not an OPC. Spizz

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having read Loren fitting instructions on Renntech and having fitted my Artci Silver centre console myself I am fairly certain I can do it myself. You do however need a cheap tool from an OPC to make sure you line up the shifter properly (sub £10). Whilst I am not a mechanic I am happy to give it a go and buy the tool then pass it on afterwards. [ ]

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

by the way, I see that Carnewal have short shifters on their site for 560 Euro. Spizz

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Chaps I was at Autosport on Friday and spent a lot of time with B&M Racing who had their usual stand there. 996 shifters retail at about £150 or so, but the main distributor of these in the UK is via Eibach (the spring people). Best give them a call in regards to availability, as the three or so people who were interested probably wouldn;t make much of a difference to the cost. All I can say is they are great - I'm bugging them to make one for my 993 as I miss it, having had one in a lot of my previous cars... Andy

POST 19Original post

The 996 and Boxster use the same part(s). Interestingly, I know the chap who runs Eibach in the UK... I'll get on to him and see what he says.[8D]

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My appetite is whetted! In any event , can you give me contact details. Spizz

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I see that there is now a Tequipment short shifter available from OPCs. Any idea how much? Spizz

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there No idea, but this is made by B&M for Porsche so you may want to look at what other costs there are for the same thing B&M branded and not Porsche. Bet you its cheaper with a B&M logo...

POST 23Original post

I had forgotten about this.[&o] My contact at Eibach is away until Tuesday next week - I'll try him then.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Mark, spring is on the way and I can feel some more mods coming on

POST 25Original post

I missed him today, he was "taking the German bosses back to the airport"[ ] I'll try again tomorrow (but I'm imposing somewhat - no promises that he will even consider anything...)

POST 26Original post

Ok, I've been in touch with Eibach. They are not averse to working a deal[ ] Basically the MD is going to talk to his people, they have done deals before with magazines (911 & Porsche World to name one) and may want to deal through one of their normal suppliers, but at a discount. Dialogue is open[ ] Now, can everyone do me a favour and let me know REAL interest in this item? I want names and quantities so that we can give a better idea to Eibach of how many we are looking at getting. If the arrangement works out then maybe we can extend it to other Eibach items - Bilsten Shocks, OE spring sets, "handling kits" etc. Over to you guys!

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to get the B&M short shifter for my 03 Boxster S. I was contemplating buying one from a stockist in the States but if you are putting a UK group buy together then I'll definitely have one. Please keep me posted Luke Ottaway

POST 30Original post

So that's three - plus 1 who emailed me direct... Not really enough to make it attractive enough for Eibach to put a deal together with a distributor really is it? To be honest I will feel rather embarrased to go to them and say we could only get five (if I include myself - which I wasn't going to as I only have the car another few months). If anyone else has been holding back, then please don't. Let me know ASAP if this is worthwhile or shall I tell Eibach to forget it?

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What a pity, I'm amazed so few people showed an interest, the short-shifter almost seems to be an essential upgrade in the States. I have posted another message on boxa.net in the hope of drumming up some interest, but I don't hold out too much hope [ ]

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Spoke to my OPC. His view was that not worth having. Spizz

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having said that, I am a saddo - so count me in if you can do a special deal. Spizz

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in if the price is right!

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlemen I'm new to the 996, although this is my 3rd Porsche the last two being a 928 S4 and a 993 trip (s). Please count me in for a B&M Short Shifter... Anyone know if this can be a DIY fit or is it a an hour at my local service centre eugene... 996 C2 Speed Yellow aero kit lower suspension

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Eugene I'm intending on fitting it myself. Apparently the instructions are quite clear, but from what I hear it is worth searching the net for further tips to make the install go that much smoother (I've got a load of info from www.986board.com, as I have a Boxster, I would be happy to send it to you). General consensus is 1 to 2 hours to fit.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Luke, I would welcome that. How do we email on this message board? Gentlemen how is the bulk order going on (who do we need to send the money to etc etc) eugene

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry guys just found out how to email... eugene

POST 39Original post

Just an update on this. I have been back to Eibach and they are stil willing to put a deal together on this. I have some info on prices - and it's good! But I need to discuss with Eibach and possibly the club, on how we actually distribute these. Hope to have more news soon.

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - Mark. Much appreciated, Spizz

POST 41Original post

Hi guys I have just had a short shift fitted on a 996 tubo at Porsche Mid Sussex. it has tranformed the car. Cost £279:82 for the part £145:41 for fitting. If you are going to fit this yourself, be careful as the original has to be broken to remove. If you contact Simon Beach at Porsche Mid Sussex he will be able to help, I think they have done 5 so far, the short shifts are difficult to get hold of at the moment. JamesB

POST 42Original post

Update. I'm sorry for the delay - I have had to do a little work 9-6 (what an inconsiderate company I work for - expecting me to work...[ ]) What we are basically trying to do, is work it so that orders are taken through the club. But we will not likely be able to discuss this until next week. Pricing is also not finalised, please bear with me on this! So hold on to your gearknobs for the moment, we are trying to shift this along slickly, and not short change you!

POST 43 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That sounds very positive Mark. Thanks again for doing this. I'm away all next week, so if you need to reconfirm numbers you know to count me in. Regards Luke

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Mark, Spring (and prime upgrade time) are fast approaching - any news on a B&M deal ? cheers

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Mark, Been away for two weeks and have rushed back to see what progress is being made ...?

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlemen, any news on the procurement of the gear changers? eugene

POST 48Original post

I'm sorry for the lack of update. I had to talk to a board member to progress this, and then I have had that inconvenient thing to do that gets in the way of what you want to do between 9 and 6 Monday to Friday (Yes I DO have a job[8|] ) The update is that we are trying to work out a deal where we can order through Club Shop. We CANNOT order direct from the distributors. Pending everyone on both sides being happy whether we can do it - we should have a good deal. [ ]
