Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Question: If I leave my iPod connected in place all the time, does it draw battery power when I turn off the motor? I'd hate to have to disconnect the iPod from its connection every time I get out of the car. Thx!

POST 2Original post

L8Apx did an interesting study on the current draw in various parking states in this thread: http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxster-tech/18024-cayman-battery-load-when-parked.html If the ipod is off, it probably doesn't draw much current once charged, but if you have have one of those cords that has a LED indicator light, it can continue to draw some power. I once completely drained my Ford Expedition battery by leaving my portable Nav plugged in (even though it was turned off) for about a week without driving (the power cord plug had an LED indicator).

POST 3Original post

My ipod battery drains after a couple of days even though it is off, despite the latest firmware on everything it still does it, Eric thinks it is my cable so I may swap that next and see if the problem goes away....

POST 4Original post

Your Owner's Manual says " Do not operate additional accessories for more than 5 minutes when engine is off ." Your results will vary depending on the health of your battery (determined by the amount and speeds of driving you do) and the draw of the device. I just don't take chances with an expensive car battery. It is sort of a Zen thing to remember to do what you are supposed to do. Makes you feel good.

POST 5Original post

I also have a 2009 911 with the iPod interface and I leave mine plugged in. It is sure to draw some power, but nothing significant. When I garage the car for extended periods (>2 weeks), I do unplug it- just to be safe.
