Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I've found this 997 Carrera that I really like, got eveyrthing I like, BUT, it doesn't have BOSE !!! While it has PCM /Navigation. How much better Bose is vs. Standard? I cannot test the audio as the car's in another state. What is involved to upgrade the system to Bose ? Is it even possible? If so, is it cost prohibitive or not? Thanks

POST 2Original post

It's not really possible to upgrade to Bose audio, which is unfortunate since I went through the same thing. My car is pretty much perfect except for the audio system. Considering the subwoofer for Bose is located in the wall passenger footwell.. it's far too late. However there are a couple of other options for upgrading audio systems. There are a couple of diy threads around these forums but it would be nice to have a professional do it. Upgrading the exiting speakers should help a lot, though so would adding a subwoofer somewhere to the car. I personally don't like the standard sound system. It's not horrible but it's not good either. I had Bose on my Cayman and I thought that was a little better. I have a cabrio and the sound system plus is bearable with the top up but I need to keep the music a little low with the top down.. Yeah, the sound of the engine is the real symphony but still, the lack of bass strength and the relative poor quality really hurts sometimes.

POST 3Original post

I researched this upgrade for a client a couple of years ago and the cost of the parts alone was over $10K! Needless to say, a good stereo shop would provide a better alternative.

POST 4Original post

The BOSE subwoofer in a 997 is not in the footwell. It is on the rear deck, behind the back seats. Just pulled mine out, stripping the BOSE system for aftermarket gear. Soooo...I have a BOSE sub & BOSE amplifier for sale... (smile) -B-
