Ok- well I figured since no one else had posted...
First the Background:
I purchased my car approximately 4-5 months ago, am now just hitting 3K miles- and feel that she is sufficiently broken in. I am not a person who could be considered a "tweaker" or "performance maniac". I bought my Carrera because I loved the way it looked and felt when I sat in it. I could have bought the "S" model for a samll amount more but chose not to because I didn't feel the same way about that car (sue me :taunt: )!
Now the question:
It seems as there is a lack of after market items for the Carrera base model- almost as if the engine is pushed to it's limit where the "S" model isn't. I may be completely off base here-in my own ignorance. As I said I am not a performance maniac- but as I spend more time with my car- I'd just like to know what out there- what people have done, are doing to their cars, etc. If my car is not "up to par" etc. I'll just ride off into the sunset enjoying her as is- and have no issues.
Thanks for any and all info-
B
I personally do not like modification, however, I am sure there exists a nice aftermarket exhaust, somewhere out there...plus the new 911s are fairly new....maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in....maybe many mods haven't been developed yet?
The base Carrera is a beautiful and awesome machine. To me, all Porsche models are fine the way they are made (of course I am biased)
I have never been satisfied w/ the quality or engineering of the aftermarket engine/exhaust modifications available for modern Porsches. Porsche has integrated emission controls into their engines w/ complex fuel/air mixture management that is very difficult to tinker with and get a better result than the factory. There are always compromises, and for me, the "butt dyno" effect doesn't compensate for the compromises, to performance, warranty, or resale. Your Carrera has more than enough power and torque for anything you care to do. Personally I plan to leave my new 997 totally stock.
If you indeed have a 2008 (not a 2009 with the new DFI motor) then just about any product made for the '05-'08 models can be used. And most, if not all of the sponsors on the CaymanClub that provide performance products for the Caymans, also have these for the 911 from DME flashes to exhaust systems and more. You should contact some of them and see what you come up with.

Both Fabspeed and Awe have mods (The usual filter and exhaust) for our cars. There is also a PSE available this april for both non-s and s version. Its not going to be cheap though!
Personally, I had fitted a BMC air filter and will fit the PSE once it becomes available. Might even consider a DMS ecu retuning. My aim is to get pass the magic 400bhp barrier!
Brad: Most aftermarket products available for the 911-997 Carrera will work with both versions, S and non-S. For instance, the Maxflo mufflers we have available will fit your 2008 997 Carrera as well as the 996 Carrera including the 996 GT3's. If you are looking for more sound/power that won't break the bank, a simple muffler and intake mod will improve your Carrera's performance by about 15-18HP while keeping the price under $1,500. I would search this forum and any other forum regarding aftermarket exhaust upgrades so you can see what others are utilizing and also what sounds the best to you. Check out our website

for more information on 997 Carrera performance products.
My good friend fitted his 996 C4S with a Fabspeed exhaust. Its the best sounding exhaust I ever heard. Not too loud, but nice deep tone. I have never experienced an exhaust upgrade like that, all positive NO negatives. On all cars I modified, aftermarket exhaust was a compromise. Not so with the Fabpseed on the 996 cars. Now, if you are expecting a super loud sound that makese your head explode - its not it. But if you like a nice deep mellow sound inside, yet deep growl outside - this is it.
