My car currently has the basic CR-22 head unit and the dual heater control unit installed directly above it.

I installled the Frankfurt in mine, and the above advice is consistent with my experience, i also used the Connects2 loom.

Morning, looking to replace my standard CR22 - non Bose with an updated Blaupunkt head unit.

Suggestion
You'll be able to get the Porsche door speaker boxes off ebay, get some new suitably sized speakers and bolt them in and then run the cables?

I've just fitted a Blaupunkt Stockholm 400 DAB in place of my CR22 non BOSE and it plugged straight in to the existing connectors. Mine is a '99 car.
good choice
For a CR22 non-BOSE car you’re on the standard Mini ISO setup, so you just need a basic ISO conversion loom like the Connects2 CT20PO02. That will plug straight in and convert the Porsche connectors to ISO for the Blaupunkt.
IIRC there’s no ignition live at the radio on a 996, so you’ll need to take a switched feed from the fuse box if you want it to turn on/off with the key.
A positive of the “Frankfurt RCM 82 DAB” is that it has a short installation depth
I installled the Frankfurt in mine, and the above advice is consistent with my experience, i also used the Connects2 loom.
It’s a great head unit, been really pleased with mine. Just wish i had door speakers, the dash speakers are a bit pants.

At that point I'm out of my depth...but somehow they can be connected to the headunit.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum...
Yesterday I purchased a 2001 911 966 Carrera 2S and am interested in upgrading the basic sound system.
My car currently has the basic CR-22 head unit and the dual heater control unit installed directly above it.
I am possibly interested in installing this double DIN head unit:

(this would require moving the heater unit to a lower DIN bay)
and upgrading the speakers in the vehicle, with the possibility of a small amp and sub.
I don't want to get too carried away on price, as...

If you don’t get on with the Blaupunkt you could always go the single din PCCM + i have it a couple of years now, very pleased, Apple Car play is seamless
PCCM + route.
the Porsche (made by Becker) single din PCCM + route is the only unit with a retro look that has integrated Apple Car play
but comes with an eye watering £1400 price point
IMHO if you don't want apple car play i.e. go direct from your mobile phone, then retro options from Blaupunkt and Pioneer for £1k less are worth considering, which means money towards speakers and an amplifier
Yes, I could and have thought about it - it’s getting new cards that seems to be the challenge - I need ones with speaker grills, rather than the pocket. Quite an expensive barrier to front door speaker entry it turns out
Don’t rule out a compact subwoofer, bypassing the bass allows the smaller speakers to handle more mid & treble and gives some much needed thump. I mounted a slim rectangular one to the parcel shelf but others have hidden them in the rear pax footwell. I also saw a post where 6” speakers were mounted in the rear although they needed to be spaced out and obviously didn’t use the OEM grills.
