I’ve had it professionally cleaned but there was nothing they could do with the slightly yellow internal lens, probably due to a bulb getting too hot.

I am sure that I have read on German forums that this company can replace burnt (yellowed / browned) internal lenses on 996 / 986 headlamp assemblies and can generally refurb:

I'll provide a further update if they are able to replace the lens.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My headlights have started to yellow. I've had it polished and clearcoated previously.
Has anyone had the lens replaced? Where did you get it done and how much did it cost?
I've come across the following so far:
1. Nine Excellence offer a refurb but I'll not sure what that includes
2. Renntech Ltd did a lens replacement for a 997 Turbo

Thread '996.1 clear headlights yellowing'

Hi all, due to a front end knock I had a brand new headlight replaced, which now make the original light on the opposite side look out of place. I’ve had it professionally cleaned but there was nothing they could do with the slightly yellow internal lens, probably due to a bulb getting too hot.
Has anyone found a way to rectify this or is it a case of just buying another one? I see some posts mentioning opening up the lens etc or getting a cleaning brush through the bulb aperture, which I don’t think will work in this case, but maybe, any advise would be helpful, he new light from Porsche...

I contacted Renntech about lenses for 986/996 a few years ago. They have not been able to get a good enough quality unit to use as a template. Even when I offered for a share of the costs and a small royalty per sale to get two new units from Porsche, they were reluctant to proceed.

I have it saved to my favourites for "when the time comes".
I made an error in the initial post. Its rennworks and not rentech.
Rennworks don't offer lens replacement for the 996 generation. They do offer polishing the headlights and applying clear coat. Which is better than most places which only offer ceramic coating. They'd need the car or headlights for 2 or 3 days due to the curing time.
Nine Excellence offer the lens replacement. I need to send across images of my headlights for confirmation. I'll provide a further update if they are able to replace the lens.

These are the internal lenses that sometimes get burnt if you have halogens.
Some cars seem well supported when it comes to headlight lenses - BMW E46 lenses are clip on/off and are very reasonable from BMW, but I've never seen 996 early or facelift lenses available. Would also need to be debonded/resealed which is a bit of a pain.
Other than that it's a question of sanding and polishing or clearcoating ( clearcoating can be pretty good).
Or buy a new set from Porsche for $$$
The GT3 R used the head light lense with a standard headlight behind it, no idea if they can be retrofitted to a stock light and they are $$

They certainly look standard and I can't see why they wouldn't work. A decent saving over buying new by still pretty juicy @ E450 or so a side. Need to get the Chinese on the case!
