Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought I would make a thread on my daily driver and the work I have been doing to it. I have never posted on here, just list parts that I have refurbished for sale. I am making this thread just to show what is possible with interior work and some of things that I could do for your own car / parts. Just get in touch. Car is a 99 996 C2 in Boxster Red. Interior had morphed into a disgusting brown colour at the front and faded pink at the rear. I wasn't aiming for a brand new finish as it would not suit the car, didn't want to use filler etc so any little bumps will be left in the finish which I think is part of the character Someone had a go at dying it before.. with a a brush.. Started off stripping my seats to get the backs painted silver. I daily this car so I bought a set of spare black hard backs because driving around like this was awful Got my seat backs painted in Arctic silver Refitted the covers Painted the porsche badges gold Started stripping the old sealer and dye off them. You can see the original colour This dries the leather out a lot and strips the oils. So I soaked them in conditioner and lost count on how many coats I gave it. They kept soaking it in. These seats are semi aniline. So with the sealer stripped, this is the only time you should condition them. Otherwise it’ll just sit on top of the sealer and gather dirt. Aniline leather isn’t sealed, but rarely used in cars. Rest of the interior next..

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Started stripping back all the leather parts. Everything you touch in the 911 is leather apart from the headliner and centre console. Dash vents and stuff are a really cheap feeling plastic

POST 3Original post

Thanks foe the write up. Please keep posting! I have a boxster red interior on my 996.2 c4 and it has been tough to find parts to match. I ended up buying matching paint and painting parts. The result is not great, but will do. You are doing a much better job.

Thanks Ray. Every boxster red interior has faded to a different colour. I got colour matched dye and paint for mine. What did you not like about the results you achieved? was it plastic or leather parts?

POST 5Original post

Fantastic. Keep posting. Love threads like this..

POST 6Original post

My interior plastics had scratches which show as black. Really annoying. I had some paint matched as close as possible by a skilled chap at a motor factory. I painted my smokers delete package as they dont make this in boxster red any more. It came out ok. The colour has settled a bit. Next task is the radio surround.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you done the whole centre console then it won’t clash and will look a lot better. I done that with mine

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re dyed all the carpets which had turned pink. Some before and afters of it refitted

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Painted all of my granite grey plastics boxster red and got the paint colour matched to the arm rest I re dyed. Got the dye colour matched to a leather sample I sent them. Cut a piece of leather from under the seat cushion. Also painted some black plastic trims in BR like the trims around the steering column Perfect colour match

POST 12Original post

Looking great, I have this colour in my wife’s Boxster, inspirational post.

POST 13Original post

Very impressive Steve! Are you using some manual/ instructions? I would be scared to take on something like this project without one.

POST 14Original post

Nice work Steve Did you use a paint additive of some sort to replicate the rubberised textured finish of the coloured plastic parts ? Centre console in most cars is a mess now, seems painting it body colour is a good solution but if you wanted to retain the factory look it would be good to have the option to replicate it.

POST 15Original post

If you don't already, you could do this professionally! Looks incredible.
