I like to adjust my speed up to 75 just as I'm passing another car......just to see them gawk.

Suggestion

I like it down at lower speeds, so I manually lowered it, turned the key off, started it again, and that set the speed sensitive thingy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 911 (996) Carrera with the retractable rear wing (up at 75 m.p.h, down at 37 m.p.h.) Is there a way to keep this up all the time? I know I can override with the footwell switch, but it keeps getting retracted automatically (though I'm not sure exactly when).

POST 2Original post

Why? Because it looks cooler with the wing up? I don't think it does. The body lines are beautiful with the wing down. At high speed, it looks bad-ass with the wing up. Watching the wing move must be awesome from the point of view of the crappy car drivers!

POST 3Original post

I've always wondered how badass the wing really looks. It has a rubber boot which probably shakes in the wind, so it's not as badass-looking as a fixed wing would look.

POST 4Original post

Yes. When I took delivery of my car, the wing was up with the key off. When I started it and drove off, it stayed up and was not speed sensitive. I like it down at lower speeds, so I manually lowered it, turned the key off, started it again, and that set the speed sensitive thingy.

I think the black boot looks pretty badass, and differentiates P-Cars from Hondas and Toyotas with fixed wings. My girlfriend has a 1999 Zenith Blue Boxster with the factory Aero Kit (with fixed wing), and that's the best-looking Boxster I've ever seen. I hear ya, DaveBerry. I like to adjust my speed up to 75 just as I'm passing another car......just to see them gawk. Am I the only one? I think not.

POST 6Original post

You can keep it up all the time by putting it up with the the footwell switch and then pull the fuse. I have not do this but read it on another site, you may want to be careful the 1st time opening the rear hood and make sure it does not interfear with that opening.

I absolutely agree with you. The lines on the 996 are so smooth, any wing does nothing for the looks. If I was to put a wing, I like the GT2 wing
