Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

I understand engines have failed (D-chunk, IMS, or whatever else), but it seems that those that have failed get a lot more promotion than the majority (those that have over 100K miles and still running with original IMS).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's great to see that LN Engineering has come out with fixes for the IMS and its problems. While researching 996s I've also seen reports of cracked cylinders. How does one know during a PPI that there may be potential problem with the cylinders? If one's 996 suffers from this is there a permanent fix (during a rebuild I would assume) like the IMS upgrade? The IMS and RMS problems seem to have been solved.. I hope. I'm taking a look at the 996 but I want to know what I'm getting into.

POST 2Original post

LN engineering has the cracked cylinder cure also. It is mostly the 3.4 engines that have this problem (99-01) a cylinder leakdown test during PPI will help foresee problems like this.

POST 3Original post

I have seen sooooo many 996 with over 100K miles with original engines (and IMS), that I do not get concerned about it. I understand engines have failed (D-chunk, IMS, or whatever else), but it seems that those that have failed get a lot more promotion than the majority (those that have over 100K miles and still running with original IMS). Byprodriver is correct, LN has the cylinder inserts to rebuild engines.

POST 4Original post

Pesuazo, Thanks for your comments about the soundness and reliability of the 996.
