working on my brothers in law`s 60`s escort I replaced a faulty master cylinder and spent time head scratching, as no matter how sure I was that I had bled and adjusted the brakes correctly, the pedal was almost on to the floor before the brakes worked...!!!!
Leading evidence: 'Adjust brakes correctly, the pedal was almost' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust brakes correctly, the pedal was almost' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I've used these in the past and found them to be first class.

My original plan was to run these on both my C4 and my C2.

The 997.1 GT3 Caliper is a 350mm 6 pot, but the hole spacing of 142mm does not lend it particularly well to a being run with a 130mm adapter.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Mounting the Caliper closer is something I am going to look at, I don't really want a 380mm disc, I feel 350mm is adequate and will give more clearance, however I also do not want to use a Cayenne Caliper, to big, heavy and industrial looking for my liking, each to their own and all that.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi. Just been reading through a few old brake upgrade threads about converting cayenne 18z calipers to fit a 996 c2.
Has anyone tried newer cayenne calipers?
I found some on eBay that are radial mounted and wondered has this been done?
The Cayenne calipers are a 6 pot and far larger .. i very much doubt the caliper bolts would line up .. you would also need larger brake discs and probably larger wheels to accommodate these .
just imho of course as i can safely say its something ive never considered let alone have done
I believe that be a Brembo 19Z, designed for 380mm discs, which willl only fit under 'some' 18" wheels.
In theory there is no reason why you couldn't get it to work, but you willl need to make up an adapter.
The Caliper spacing on a C2 is 130mm, if that is a 19z, it will be circa 225mm.
In making up the adapter you will also need to ensure that it not only pulls the disc out far enough to work with a 380 disc, but also that the offset is correct.
Caliper adapters are common place in the BMW / VAG world but thin on the ground for Porsche.
Porsche themselves do make a Caliper adapter that adapts from 142mm to 225mm to accommodate 380mm but it won't fit a 996.
Over the winter I am going to look at getting a 997.2 GT3 Caliper (380mm) to fit a 996 C2.
Crash
If the difference is going from 130 to 225mm then a bracket should be easy enough to make. If this is the case then could we mount it closer to the hub therefore allowing a smaller disc and possibly machine a standard pad to fit that disc?
Alex
Are you making those brackets for sale and do you machine the lugs off the caliper and drill new mounting holes?
I am hopeful a bracket will be achievable. - Just need to work out the dimensions and get someone to make them.

Apparently the Macan 6 pot is an option, lighter than the cayenne Caliper and radial mount.
These are what I have on my car at the moment, along with 996 turbo rear calipers on spacers.
This is the rear calipers with spacer.
I had two full sets made up, and have refurbed one set of calipers. My original plan was to run these on both my C4 and my C2. As you have spotted, I have since bought a set of PCCB disks and calipers and am looking at getting those to fit as an option.
Assuming they fit OK, I will have a set of these spacers and machined calipers which need a repaint for sale. My intention is to offer these as a kit at some point in the future.
These would benefit from a 27mm master cylinder, which I can also supply with the required pipe.

Nice job. I have read your thread and have been jumping back and forward for different bits of info, very helpful. I'm thinking more atm of going for a k sport 8 pots with 356mm bells and rotors. I've used these in the past and found them to be first class. This is probably why I'm very underwhelmed by the standard 996 bits.
I wonder what I'd get for the standard bits. Fresh discs and pads? :?:
Any idea of cost on the calipers and brackets?
No idea why you'd need bigger brakes on a standard 996 :dont know:
They are certainly less servo assisted than most modern cars, (..gave my Jag engineer mate a scare when he tried his first stop from speed) but unless the discs are knackered, they work really well when you give them a good shove.
- unless you just "want" them, which is fine... (we all like new shiny stuff
)
I have zero experience of changing Porsche callipers, though perhaps another consideration might be the master cylinder capacity in terms of the amount of extra (?) fluid requiring to be dispersed to shift the extra number of pistons within the reportedly "larger" calliper...?
Bore and stroke of the master cylinder are more than likely designed to match the "original" system. Of course if there is minimal difference in the fluid dispersal required then it may be that you notice that brake pedal travel may be a bit further than it was with the original callipers..?
How do I come to understand this... working on my brothers in law`s 60`s escort I replaced a faulty master cylinder and spent time head scratching, as no matter how sure I was that I had bled and adjusted the brakes correctly, the pedal was almost on to the floor before the brakes worked...!!!!
Seems Ford changed the brake system design mid year in the year of manufacture of the Escort, at first glance the master cylinders looked identical, however the one I was supplied with was obviously incorrect for the car... Amazing what you can learn by your mistakes..
Just thinking in type.
I e been on eBay and found a set from a panamera. Asked on disc size but forgot to ask about caliper bolt holes. Disc measurements are 350x30. I right in saying that panamera discs might fit as the wheels are a good fit on a 996?
