ThisĀ all started when I had a Mobridge Bluetooth phone kit installed and the installer only disconnected the phone functionality from the PCM unit and not the module under the seat as well.

Initially to troubleshoot had theĀ the entire starter loom and everything replaced (15yrs old so IĀ canĀ smile nowĀ and just call that preventative maintenance) but, all it turned out to be was one plug that needed to be disconnected under my seat!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts Ā· 0 unverified posts Ā· 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We’ve been away for a bit and the 997 has been tucked away in the garage. I thought it’d be best to take it for a run and the ABS light came on. Rather than going straight home I pulled over and switched it off (in same vain attempt to maybe reboot it like a PC). It wouldn’t restart, so we sat and waited for Ā a tow. Instead of a nice meal at a local winery, we ended up having ham and cheese toastie for lunch. All in all a grand day out. Put it on the trickle charger and 2hrs later it fires straight back up. Next I need to suss out if it’s just battery or starter or starter / alternator cable. In the mean time it’ll go on the trickle each night.

POST 2Original post

Sorry to hear Dave, Battery voltage can reekĀ all sorts of havoc on modern cars, have your battery checked first.

Will do, mate.

POST 4Original post

If that doesn’t fix it, likely to be the alternator

@dan_189 dropped a diagram here for the system onĀ the m96, which I would assume would be the same on the m97 https://porscheforum.com.au/topic/8127-996-slow-turnover-when-engine-warm/?do=findComment&comment=147323

POST 6Original post

As Mike mentioned I'd vote alternator to starter cable - also prevents the car from charging the battery properly.

POST 7Original post

I’ve foundĀ even slight loss of voltage will prevent starting. Ā These newer cars are very sensitive in that regard.

It's now on the trickle charger and I will pack the battery booster just in case it happens between now and when I can get Dave Brennan to look at it

POST 9Original post

@Francois on here tackled it himself on his 997 - new starter and cable. Think there is a thread about it floating around here somewhere.

Thanks Dan, I’ll have a look around for the thread.

POST 11Original post

AgreeĀ with when the battery is lowĀ all kinds ofĀ electronic issues can pop up! (sunroof operating on its own, airbag light, seat bolster pressure automatically increasing!) Similar thing happened to me a while back which turned out to be the phone/factory Motorola module under the drivers seat that was still pulling currant when the car was off. ThisĀ all started when I had a Mobridge Bluetooth phone kit installed and the installer only disconnected the phone functionality from the PCM unit and not the module under the seat as well. I was getting a flat battery every 3- 4 days without driving! Drove me mad. Initially to troubleshoot had theĀ the entire starter loom and everything replaced (15yrs old so IĀ canĀ smile nowĀ and just call that preventative maintenance) but, all it turned out to be was one plug that needed to be disconnected under my seat! My guess is a good recondition cycle of your battery with the trickle charger overnight before you take her out,Ā especially if you're not driving it for more than a week or two at a time. Good luck

POST 12Original post

Here is the thread on the replacement cable - the procedure to the 996 is similar but not exactly the same for the 997

POST 13Original post

Hi Dave, I have a 997 CS2 same vintage, artic grey would be the only difference and no red seat belts if you remeber. Seems to me that if you have been away for an extended period thats to much of a coincedence, particularly if the car wasn't on trickle. I have the C-TEK charger with cigarette lighter adaptor, every time the car goes back into the garage inĀ goesĀ the adaptor to the cigarette lighter, and touch wood I have never had a problem in 5 years of ownership.

POST 14Original post

I've got the C-tek charger and was able to get by until I figured out the cable was the problem. If the cable is toast the car wont charge the battery properly.
