Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anybody tell me how to deactivate the passenger airbags on a 996 turbo. I want to put my little girls car seat in the front...
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
If it's the same as my old 986 (and it's highly likely it is), you need a device that fits under the seat and some coding done to allow it to be deactivated. Used to have one in the Boxster for the same reason.
It's never simple with a Porsche.... :dont know:

Installation is a doddle, 2 bolts under the seat, then got a local Indy to complete the required coding for less than £100 if I remember right.
Was a while ago now. :?:
I believe this is only required for rear facing child seats. Happy to be corrected.
I'm wanting to do this on mine too.. There was a guy on ebay who used to make a switch that connects under the seat that did exactly the same thing as the bar from Porsche but for about £20..
but I can't find his details anywhere now I actually want one..
Slightl hijack if you have this option as a factory fit, which I do I believe it's on the build sheet and I have a light on the centre console that says passenger airbag deactivated which cycles around when I start the car but goes out
If I did want to deactivate how would I?
I did find this though..

I don't think I would trust my little ones safety with my poor electrical skills though. I'd rather buy one from someone who knows what they are doing.
Haveing to work from memory here as its been a long time since i fitted one of these ..
The buckle thats fitted under the seat has a switch in it .. if the child seat is plugged in then the passengers airbag is deactivated .. if not then its active .
When fitting it has to be coded , its a pretty quick job but i have seen on the autologic tester that its a one way code .. once coded it cant be uncoded .
To fit its a couple of seat bolts ( longer ones fitted so dont use the standard bolts) and a plug to fit to the buckle .. pretty quick and simple .
997 and there was a metal bracket that fitted into the seat mechanism to stop possible seat folding forwards in an accident .. i dont think this is fitted to the 996 but not sure .. this was the bitch part of the job .
What you need is this ..

You'll need to search to find a cheaper alternative though ... it will need coding once fitted .. any Indy can do this .. probably get charged 0.5 hrs labour though .. most garages don't tend to charge less than this .
I will refer you back to my previous post though .. once fitted it can't be .. " unfitted " .. new control unit if so .
I did see thread on the 996 turbo FB page a few days ago, a few guys on there had them laid around and would be happy to sell them.
Mostly based in the USA but if you're stuck it's an option.
I've just had one fitted to my 996 so I can do the nursery run, my Porsche tech gave me a deactivator bar he had laying around and fitted and eporsch coded. I bought the male buckle attachment from Porsche Shop for £18.
I was told by both it can be 'unfitted'...but anyway, it needed to be done so job done, nursery run a-go-go.
I am looking at getting a switch put into the glove box for track work. I am thinking along the lines of a resistor to replace the airbag when the switch is pressed. I just need to find out if pressing the switch to activate the airbag is likely to set it off.
Not sure if DeMort knows the answer. If so presumably I will have to open the car and wait for it to go into shutdown before flicking the switch.
I am away at the moment so have not had a chance to experiment with a spare airbag
