Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

does anyone know what causes the radio volume to be shutoff? Its been happening to be a lot recently. Seems like everytime I unlock the car using the key fob (instead of manually in the door). separately, does anyone know if the problem continued with an aftermarket radio? Will the volume keep getting random shutoff if I install the Porsche classic radio? thanks!

POST 2Original post

I assume this is from the 996 Turbo S? What radio do you have in it? PCM2? CDR-23?? BOSE? Normally, audio cutout could be connectivity issues or a malfunctioning amplifier. In my experience, the amps are usually the culprit. However, if this is a 2005 Turbo S, then you'll have MOST transport bus and fiber optics have been known to make poor connections especially in colder climates. This results in audio drop outs.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh wow. Yeah, its an 05 tts. I read online it was a known issue but had no idea it was just for later year models. randomly the volume on the radio doesnt work. Radio is on and appears to function perfectly, just no volume. the fix is to essentially restart the radio, which somehow happens when you unlock the car manually. Its kinda annoying. I have to get out of the car, lock it with the fob, then open it again with the key. wondering if this will continue if I replace the radio and, I guess if theres anything I can do when replacing the radio to fix the issue permanently.

May be time to upgrade to the Porsche PCCM+ double din radio. And yes, the problems could continue if the problem wasn't the head-unit. Again, I've seen most of these types of problems at the amplifier in my experience.

Yes, I would definitely budget for a new amplifier. But if it were me, I install the new head-unit and see if the problem persists first.

I response in the 996 turbo forum and figured I’d share the link https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...art-cause.html
