I have a 04 996tt. I get a noise like a whine or whistle. when I touch the clutch pedal it goes away but the sound returns. I had a new clutch kit installed a few months ago. My friend seems to think its the release bearing. the installer said it was a bad radiator resevior and said its about the size of a cigar box and the part was about 800.00 and 2/3 hrs install. does anyone have a clue on this issue of mine?

Time for a new mechanic . A radiator reservoir should not cost anywhere near that price. Here is one on pelican- Pelican Parts - Product Information: 996-106-157-03-M100 I am not familiar enough with the 996 to be of much help though, it could very well be the clutch bearing but there is a clutch pedal assist on the 996.

The noise maybe from low fluid in reservoir causing the pump to draw in air bubles. Some times the seal at the bottom of the reservoir goes bad and leaks. Check for leaks there. If so your mechanic was right, new reservoir. No seal kit is availabe yet. The power assist for the clutch pedal uses the power steering pump pressure.
