Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. My gearbox bushes are starting to split on my 2003 C4S. I’m going to change them at the next service. I’d like to get some opinions on whether there is any benefit in upgrading or changing to something other than OEM. The car is used on the road as a daily driver.

POST 2Original post

I would stick to the OEM bushes, a no hassle replacement how did you get on in the end ?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I haven’t changed them yet. It’s the next job after the summer. I will probably go for OEM.

POST 4Original post

On the 996 Tiptronic it’s basically one gearbox mount/carrier at the front of the transmission. Support the gearbox with a jack and wood block, then: Remove the centre/rear undertrays and aluminium brace. Take the load off the gearbox mount with the jack. Remove the two bolts through the mount into the gearbox. Remove the carrier/bracket fixings and lower it out. Replace the complete mount/carrier, or press the rubber bush out if you’re only replacing the insert. Refit with the gearbox supported at its natural height, then torque everything correctly. No need to remove the gearbox. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/993445-diy-transaxle-transmission-mount-bushing-with-aga-tool.html

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for this. I’ll decide if I want to tackle it myself at the end of the summer.
