Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I've treated my 996 to a Tequipment handbrake to match the gear knob I bought a while back, but in the process of removing the centre console to fit it, I've committed what I now know is the rookie error of not disconnecting the storage box sensor before pulling the console out and inevitably it broke. I couldn't figure out how to put it back and couldn't find any images online so I thought I'd simply tape the contact shut for now to avoid the telltale horn beep when locking the car. However, that doesn't seem to work... So, I know this is a long shot but does anyone have an image of how the contact is supposed to attach under the console please? Or a part number for the bit that sprang off as I lifted the console, never to be seen again? What I've got left is shown in the picture - it's not mine, I've "borrowed" from the internet as I forgot to take a snap while I was trying to figure it all out... Overall I'm really pleased with how the handbrake looks - and that I managed to install it (I don't have highly developed spannering skills!) - so this is a minor irritation, but one it would be good to sort out. Thanks in advance for your help!

POST 2Original post

Is this any help? It looks like the microswitch (24) attaches to a bracket.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Very helpful, thank you Richard - it gives me some part numbers to go at. Much appreciated!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just to update that with the help of your post Richard and a bit of ebay browsing, I managed to repair the switch today for the princely sum of £9.99. It was all going so well until I dropped the last torx screw when refitting the centre console and it disappeared off into an inaccessible space... Ah well, cars eh?
