Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good Afternoon,
I posted to rentech last night and I thought I would also post to rennlist today to see if someone has an idea of the issue going on my car.I am new to the Porsche world and recently purchased a 1999 Guards Red C2. In the past few days I have noticed a loud fan noise/pump noise under the passenger side dash when the ignition key is turned to the on position. This noise seems to be independent of the AC fan. I am not sure if this sound is normal for a 911 or something that I should be more concerned with. I will note that the noise will continue until the ignition is **** off. With that being said, I was wondering if anyone knew what this noise could be and if its something I should be more concerned with.
Thank you in advance for your help!
It sounds like mine, I was wondering as well yesterday, as a matter of fact. I took it for a normal "old school" electrical noise old stuff always have, but curious if someone knows for sure.
My ****ty neons lamps at home that I'm too lazy to change do the exact same noise.
thanks
@mffarrell
for the reply
better stated, I'm wondering if
1) anyone else hears the sensor motor/fan at the passenger round vent below heater vent?
2) is it supposed to be on even when the heater fan is switched off?
Here's a video to gauge the noise level. It's about 45 dB (using a phone app and mic right at the vent opening

I have the same sound. I disconnected the blower and the sound still exsist.
@mffarrell
any chance you have a part number or a diagram showing the location?
Found part #

@GH996
thanks a bunch for checking this out on your car!
Yes, that's the correct part#. At $350 for the fan/sensor I don't want to get a new one if it's about the same noise level.
I did find a spec on the fan itself and states <26dB @ 10cm. Hard to measure as i don't have a space quieter than that to measure.
I'm going try to disassemble it some to see if I can oil the bearings.
Looking for a PCA gathering to listen to some fellow 996 dashes
Thanks for the reply!
I took the assembly apart, took cap of sintered bearing, put a little oil on it. At one point it was ultra quiet in testing by reassembly it returned to noisy.
i may have to get a new one
So it was $350 for that part? Where did you source it? mine is whinny as well.
(Well not sure why it wasn't showing on pelican when I was first searching, but I found it on pelican now.... $367
