It's made by Sonax but again will have dye in it and it WILL be checked before any warranty claim will be agreed.

Must remember to check the kitchen cupboard for red food dye to add to my 20:50 oil for the Indie so I can blame him when my engine blows although he will have saved me fifty quid on OPC servicing........

(Thats got to be a first) Question is...if I get the oil change done by an indy will OPC be able to tell when it goes in for the first service, obviously concerned re warranty.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes. OPCs use red oil, a bit like red diesel, and indys don't have access to it so when the OPCs drain the engine they know what you have done and void the warranty.
You can use red food colouring to adjust the colour of indy oil but you need to know the exact mix. Unfortunately I don't know it but perhaps someone else here does.

Never heard of this before....
Why not ask your OPC if you can supply your own oil? My OPC wanted £253 to carry out an interim oil change on my 987 in between services. When asked how much if I supplied my own oil it was reduced to £45 + VAT. Picked up Mobil 1 at Costco, under £60 for 10 litres. Total cost circa £114 for an oil change plus got a stamp in the service book.

Was this long ago? IIRC since the red oil was introduced I think OPCs have stopped allowing owner-supplied oil. Many OPCs were charging "corkage" on owner-supplied oil anyway making it a less attractive option.
From 2014 extended warranty will require the use of Porsche approved screen wash too. It's made by Sonax but again will have dye in it and it WILL be checked before any warranty claim will be agreed.
call me daft but what kind of warranty claim can a OPC reject for not using approved screen wash? or if fact oil as along as it meets design criteria/oil grade

I had my oil change in August & there was nothing said then about supplying my own oil.
I can't believe they could even entertain refusal of a warranty claim for different screen wash. It's almost as ridiculous as refusing a claim because you've filled up with supermarket fuel or washed the car with cheap wash n wax!

I bought some approved red oil
out the back door
from my contact at my OPC. I won't mention names, but if you want some I can supply a sealed container of the
moonshine
for £100 for 5 litres. I can also get Porsche approved blinker fluid at a good price too.

It was around mid August that it was introduced. It's part of Porsche's Rot Arbeitsprogramm, which aims to ensure that Porsche customers return to the OPC for literally everything. In Germany all new Porsches are leaving the centres with tyres inflated with a mix of air, nitrogen and a red gaseous dye to stop customers buying tyres outside of Porsche. Take your car in for warranty work, the tyres will be checked and if what's in the tyres isn't red you're given the option to either buy new tyres from Porsche or have your warranty claim, and any subsequent warranty claim, declined.
There is a chance of preventing DAR being rolled out globally and there is a legal challenge going through the Central European Court. If I were still a Porsche owner I'd be writing to my MP to highlight the problem and ask that representation be made to prevent this restrictive practice. You can find out who your MP is

Red oil is nothing hard to get round compared to the old days, I remember a few years ago OPC used to use oil containing specially developed tadpoles, which died if over revs were registered.
I recall many an anxious moment at oil change time waiting to hear if all my tadpoles had survived and if my warranty was still in place.

Tadpoles is a bit of a misnomer. The long chain molecules were designed to breakup around the cam at specific rotations, because of the heavier top end. The technical term was, IIRC, Ablenkungsmanöver.

Seriously!? This is a wind-up surely?
For new car warranties, how would this comply with the EU block exemption regulation?
A loophole apparently. The only place compatible red oil and screen wash are available are via distribution channels controlled by Porsche and which don't, erm, distribute.
Remember the situation with tyres for the 991? Only Porsche could get them. Though they shot themselves in the foot there because even they struggled to supply them.
They are craftier than a cart load of monkeys. Remember that they cornered the market in VW shares:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/100342487
They have people whose sole job it is to calculate how to manipulate markets, allegedly. The DAR policy is just the latest manifestation of it.
At my last service my OPC told me to ensure I only use shoes and clothing from the Porsche collection. Apparently they have special 'smart' fibres embedded which the OPC can detect.
If traces of these fibres are not present any warranty for interior wear and tear is voided. Also as your shoes touch the pedals it also voids the complete engine and drivetrain warranty.

Can I buy Porsche clothing from a specialist or will it need a 111 seam check before I can wear it in my 911?

Dilithium crystals dissolved in supernanopolydrive works just as well and is much cheaper
Struggling to find some OPC approved wind for the tyres though!

I just hope you are grooming yourself properly before putting on your approved Porsche clothing.
Only Porsche design shower gel and aftershave will suffice under these new proposals...

You're joking Shirley?
What about all that hot air that comes out an OPC salesmanship mouth when you ask for a trade in figure...?
There's plenty of that around.

Didn't you know that hot air contains more moisture and consequently gives inconsistant pressure readings.

Excellent. I trust the OP will be delighted that he's been given a clear course of action!
:-)
I would say that we have been most helpful.
I once had a warranty claim rejected by my OPC because their ODD (odour detection device) picked up that I had previously guffed out an extra eggy fart in my 911 whilst not wearing Porsche Design carbon filtration underpants!

Perec, you rule man!
I'm just amazed Perec has ventured into the ghey-fest that is the Boxster/Cayman forum.
Perhaps he secretly wants one....
I blame the Chinese. They started it by demanding everything added to the vehicles shows that it is communist party friendly. So much product being sent to China that they now have some control on the market. A friend of mine has been using their diesel for years on his farm. It was only a matter of time.

Wow, I knew I'd brought more than just a 'car', but man, I wasn't banking on a change of wardrobe too
Not just your wardrobe. Did you have your morning coffee in a Porsche approved Mug (nanits attached to the side of the mug, disperse into the coffee and radiate a signal that is detected on entry to an OPC) and not forgetting your Porsche approved Salt and Pepper grinders (A clever dye on the teeth that is only detectable under very specific lighting conditions found only in OPC's).
