I have already replaced the actuator because that is what the diag for the fault says to do.

I'm sure the cam chain wear pads need to be replaced anyway.

Since then I have also tried a different DME, a cam sensor, and ran new wires to the actuator to eliminate these things.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 996 coupe with a fault for cam adjustment fault on bank 2. I have already replaced the actuator because that is what the diag for the fault says to do. Since then I have also tried a different DME, a cam sensor, and ran new wires to the actuator to eliminate these things. The fault is p1539 and I am running out of ideas to check. Anyone run into something like this. Any help or ideas would be great.

POST 2Original post

May be mechanical problem of the cam adjustment tensioner. It functions like a hydralic lifter & can become clogged with debris like a lifter. Fairly easy to disassemble & clean, but major pain to remove from head. I'm sure the cam chain wear pads need to be replaced anyway.
