Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi i purchased a 2000 911 Millennium (996 C4). The other day ran out of gas, yet there was fuel showing on the guage, slight under 1/4 and no warnings of low fuel, when i added 2 gallons it started wright up and was fine. Does any one have any hints to this is it programming or just an old fuel sender?

POST 2Original post

C4 & Turbo have a "Split" gas tank, one section is isolated from the rest of the tank that has the sender. The amount of fuel in that section is inferred by the amount used. If the tank is empty and the battery is disconnected the computer loses its calibration. I think there might be a way to re-calibrate without taking it to the dealer but not sure. Someone will chime in soon.

POST 3Original post

My father has a Millennium edition 911. I am almost certain that there was a recall on the fuel sender, a calibration problem. Check with the dealer.
