Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Making a small puddle under the car, looks to be coolant. Just behind the oil pan. Water pump was replaced 10k ago, coolant tank 3k ago. Any guesses?

POST 2Original post

Platic 1/4" connector under the alt. Pull the air box and look.

POST 3Original post

Did you buy an aftermarket waterpump? Something non Pierburg or non Porsche?

POST 4Original post

There is an oil cooler to the top right side of the engine that might be leaking. I had the same issue. The metal gasket leaks over time. May potentially be your issue as well.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 18664154

Just ti clarify....the cooler is in the opposite side of the motor and there r orings under the cooler not a metal gasket. The t-stat and wp both use metal gaskets.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 18664229

There is no way for the oil cooler leak to show up under the thermostat ...

POST 7Original post

my guess is that it's related to the recent work done. Maybe they installed the gasket wrong on the water pump or thermostat? Or maybe the coolant level sensor's connection to the expansion tank, that doesn't have a clamp and is just tapered. other than that it could only be the fittin in post #2.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ended up being the water pump. Again.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 18665093

And that is what you get for NOT buying a Porsche water pump, or a Piersburg water pump (who is the one that makes the pump for Porsche). Cheap pumps... don't work.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was a pierburg guessing maybe just didnt drive it enough and seals went bad? 10k over 4 years or so.

POST 11Original post

So the failed waterpump was 4 years old? That seems a little young but if you don't drive it a lot, **** happens.

POST 12Original post

Porsche coolant? Or something else, just curious.. I also find generally that a bottle of Water wetter or similar will help keep the pump seals lubricated... If you use sealer use the Honda recomended "silver" its a high bond , high strength semi silicon product. Its used on a lot of AL engines to seal without gaskets on both the cooling areas and against oil (LIke timing covers/oil pans water pumps etc. ) Warning, It STICKS so next time it will be harder to take apart.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche coolant. Update though, I moved recently and this was a new shop that diagnosed it as a water pump, they quoted double to do the job as when it was originally done in 2019, so I called the shop who originally did it to see if theyd help me out a bit considering it was a relatively recent install, to which they agreed. Good dudes. Turns out it wasnt the pump, but the plastic fitting mentioned earlier in this thread. Glad I got a second opinion.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 18669493

Wait, how can a shop miss that plastic fitting? It is known as a weak point, and you can see it without having to remove anything.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, I was shocked as well. They even said I had a stripped bolt on my airbox as well, and provided a fully detailed inspection with pictures, said it was definitely the pump.
