not sure, I drive an ML63 day to day so manual might make it more of a distinct change, and I guess they're be around £3k less though probably a less liquid market.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I keep getting tempted by a Cayman R and I know a few guys on here have one. They seem very option sensitive - what are the essential options I should be looking for? The green one at an OPC looks nice if a little expensive as its one of the highest priced ones out there. Thanks!

I remember reading a thread where someone said a "perfect" CS popped up... wondering what the general consensus is on what's "perfect" as I'll probably only have the car a year or so

POST 4Original post

Bucket seats, manual, spyderwheels, peridot, air-con, pse, sports chrono

POST 5Original post

Manual, Buckets PSE Short shift Sports mode Spyder wheels AC Rest is just bits and bobs. You can retro fit short shift and sports mode. If you buy one you will keep it longer than a year if you enjoy driving :-) But most manual specs sell, there was one like my Spyder spec and that sold quite fast ie, PCCB, no radio, lipo battery. Depends what type of spec suites you. Black and PDK seem slower sellers, but seems a market for every. car.

POST 6Original post

Manual, Buckets , Ac Spyder wheels , sports exhaust White or black ( for resale when you are bored )

POST 8Original post

I looked at the Peridot one at Nottingham OPC - no PSE and its PDK. Also looks a little scruffy. Undecided on PDK - think I wouldn't mind it, but lack of PSE is a big minus - expensive to retro fit. The one at Notts also obviously lived outside - lots of green algae adorns all the window seals. But, £39,990 - seems expensive compared to others of similar age but lower miles. POST 10Original post

I would say that air con seems to be an essential option for resale. I bought the one from GC Motors yesterday and they had it since June. It has everything except air con and I think that is why it hadn't sold.

POST 12Original post

Mermaid said: Retro-fit possible? I am sure it would be possible but I hate to think what it would cost. For me, it was the one option I was happy to do without. Must haves for me were: PDK with Sport Plus (I want to sprint the car) Bucket seats Sports Exhaust Lightweight wheels It also has PCCB, Leather dash, Nav (!), Bose and parking sensors.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

None on the market with PCCB presently - with so few about, is it just a case of watching the market and if you see one you like, acting fast? Were most of these sold on 2/3yr finance deals and so the original owners still have them?

POST 15Original post

From the lists of personal opinions given so far, I would be interested to know what the OP has decided on as the ideal spec for them. Let us know and we might be able to help find it - there's a nice blue manual without PCCB or sports exhaust in Bradford for example and an equally good white manual in Hampshire.

POST 16Original post

Manual Carbon buckets Spyder wheels Sports exhaust Sport shift Full leather - in my opinion Radio - it is a road car, not a race car. Air con... Same reason as above. Spec sensitive as per the spyder. Colour is personal preference. Edited by DS240 on Monday 2nd December 13:44

Looked at that and it looks nice. I wasn't planning on buying till new year as I won't drive it yet. Just getting an idea so I know what to look for when I go. Still also considering an Exige V6.... other stuff etc, the Cayman looks a nice option though, and I miss my Porsches.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My essential options would be: - Lairy colour - Sports Exhaust - Sat Nav, Radio, Air Con ..... not sure what else I'd really be interested in. PCCB is cool but to be honest, I've had various 997's / Cayman S before and the brakes were always fab on steels. As for PDK.... not sure, I drive an ML63 day to day so manual might make it more of a distinct change, and I guess they're be around £3k less though probably a less liquid market.

POST 19Original post

You are definitely keeping your options open. My preferred colour would heve been red but a white CS came up with a great specification and an even better price so I was forced to get it The old press Cayman S has just gone up for sale - Viper Green, exhaust, buckets, manual, ceramics, LSD etc, etc, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mFoSpbhAOw

POST 20Original post

Carbon seats and spider wheels are standard. Essential in my view: Manual Sports Shift Sports Exhaust The rest is just gloss and unnecessary. the previous owner of my car (THANK YOU!) spec'd this lot ...

He's told me off before for giving out this advice: Unless you never ever drive in the countryside after dark, or you only ever drive very, very slowly: you should buy a car with bi-xenon lights. I know. I drive my 987 with and the GF's 987 without bi-xenon lights, every week. The difference is more than noticeable; it's huge.

As I live down some long dark NSL country roads, I agree completely. The standard lights are a bit poor in this regard. A Porsche with xenon's would be a must have for me now.

POST 24Original post

I would never tell any one off for wanting xenons, I love them, standard Porsche lights are crap, I have some of the new ultra bright bulbs going in as we speak to try and combat the poor light. Only pointless on your garage queen summer car :-) I never use the lights on the Spyder as it only comes out in the summer and it' s light till 10pm. So to that end it is just extra weight with levellers , washers etc. Very hard to find a cayman R with every thing you want, ESP if you 100% want full leather which I did. Along with buckets, Spyder. Wheels, PSE and of course manual.

POST 27Original post

Mermaid said: Does that affect the warranty? nope, I doubt a light will be taken out and the bulbs checked on a 111 inspection :-) A bulbs a bulb, it's oem spec wattage.

kbf1981 said: We're those as standard? I remember reading a thread where someone said a "perfect" CS popped up... wondering what the general consensus is on what's "perfect" as I'll probably only have the car a year or so PSE not standard. Obvious to say but the tighter your list, the harder it is to find hence my short list. I could not go without AC, Sport Chrono, auto dim mirrors (on any car that sits low as every SUV blinds you on dip) but it depends how you use it. I ripped out the radio on mine and the dealer thought I was mad. It was the standard head unit. It was rubbish and I actually needed the storage space because with the aluminium doors, you don't get door bins and there is only a tiny cubby hole in front of the gear stick and the centre console (which is fine for about 5 coins and a stick of gum.

POST 29Original post

kbf1981 said: Essential options on a Cayman R? Three pedals and a gearstick. A/C might be worthwhile in a coupe to be fair and you may as well have the radio given how little weight it saves. The rest of it is just unnecessary fluff.

POST 30Original post

Personally, I wouldn't go for any less than the following.... Manual Spyder Wheels (Black) Buckets Xenon lights Short shift PSE Sound package plus Sports Chrono Automatic A/C Fortunately this is pretty much the spec on mine

POST 31Original post

mrdemon said: I would never tell any one off for wanting xenons Sorry MrD. It wasn't you. I just checked & it was Cmoose who said I was talking "pure piffle" when I said "if you buy a car without xenons you'll have to drive slowly at night".

POST 32Original post

Or just feed your liking for carrots ? I think if you want to buy a car you need to either be flexible on spec, or prepared to wait. My must have was PCCB's !!
