Hello
My wife’s 2004
Boxster
has not been started for about 6 months.
It’s a basic
986
equipped with an automatic transmission.
After such a long time sitting, I’m a bit concerned by starting the engine.
Is there anything I should do before cranking it up?
I’m a bit afraid to have all the oil down the engine.
Could you advice me on what to do
Thanks
Patrick
Not sure about water cooled but,
For
911s
it is recommended to pull the
DME
relay to disable the
fuel pump
. Then turn over the engine a few times to get the oil moving again. Replace the
DME
then start as normal.
You should be ok as long as you do it when after the warmest part of the day. I wouldn't do it first thing in the morning after sitting so long. Leave it in a hot garage warming everything up then fire it up. You can do something like pull a
fuel pump
relay or fuse and turn over the car a few times as well but again, let it warm up so the oil flows as quickly as possible. Back in the day when I worked in a Dyno, we would circulate the oil through a heater before starting a brand new race motor for the first time.
Nothing to worry about. My 2008
Cayman
sits idle all Winter and has started right up with no problem for the last 14 years. Runs great with no issues.
It’s not an issue with the more modern cars.. mine sit for 3-4 months, granted it’s 60-70 deg inside all winter. I’d let it idle and warm to operating temps and take it for a rip and burn off the moisture… then change the oil soon
I would put a
battery
charger on it once the
battery
is fully charged you should be good to go.
A fully charged
battery
will put less strain on the electrical system during start up.
If you going to leave the car used for months you should over inflate the
tires
(helps to prevent flat spots )and add a quality
battery tender
( not a cheap
harbor freight
one)
Hi, buddy nothing to worry about, not a big issue.
Also, invest in a
Ctek
trickle charger… with these goofball charging systems, say goodbye to a dead
battery
and all that other jump the terminal bullchit
Just start it up and drive off normally.
