Suspected cause
I agree with the general comments here, it's a fabulous car and probably a better daily driver than a .1.
Leading evidence: 'better daily driver than a .1' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better daily driver than a .1' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run costs are reasonable' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
It ticks a huge number of boxes for the price and I think running costs are reasonable for what’s on offer (two year servicing can’t be ignored).

Suggestion
However, on that favourite bit of road, there is probably much less of a difference in performance when using the full rev range on the 991.1 becomes more of an option.

Evening all,
Just wondering are the 991.1 GTS not far off the 991.2 GTS price range these days?
Looking at both and found 2 with not much different in price, or mileage and wondered do the older 991.1's command a higher price these days rather than the newer 991.2?
I can imagine a 991.1 is a great car for the road, in today's world not too fast without the low-down torque of a turbo so may actually be more usable and rewarding having to rev it out. 991.2 GTS's would put me off with the risk of a Turbo issue...

991.1 have stronger residuals than the .2, last of the na and no turbo issues, they are a great car in my eyes if you like the drive.
This.
I was on the lookout for a 991GTS and tried both the 1 and 2.
For me the 1 was far more exciting to drive, the engine is just sublime. It may not be quite as fast as the 3.0T 2 but it is easily fast enough and sounds glorious. Also doesn't have the Turbo issues of the 2.
Specialists I discussed with stated the 991.1 was the last true GTS with a lot of tweaks over the S models such as the X51 power kit, whereas later models where really a trim level.
Their advice was that the 991.1 GTS if bought correctly, for example, full OPC S/H, low owners, low mileage, correct GTS trim ( not the horrible plastic dashboard or the without paddles MFW) will be one of the best of the modern cars to keep its residuals.
Look at the Boxster 981GTS values/demand vs the newer 718 2.5T GTS.

I paid what I thought was top £ for a 9,000 mile car in April and absolutely love it, but that price now has been blown out of the water by recent prices and sales.
Go and drive a realky good one, you won't walk away without buying it!
Having bought a 991.1 GTS last year it's heartening to read growing love for what they are.
I think a number of factors will see their values hold strong - last of the N/A engines, avoidance of Turbo issues and far fewer for sale. Currently 16 .1 cars v 51 .2 cars on AT.
They are a real joy to drive. Compared to a turbo they feel a bit docile at low revs but get beyond 3k and the noise and pace picks up significantly. At the top end the yowl is quite seductive.
As a second car for weekends and sunny days, even adding a chunk of money, I can't think of anything i'd rather have.
ETA - think we need some GTS pics up. Here's mine. PDK with 18 way GTS interior. Let's see yours!

Had 991.1 GTS PDK, brilliant car, but needs the right spec as well. 18 Ways, Sunroof GTS Interior Pack leather & Carbon, Bose for me. Paid 80k March 2022 from OPC Chester sold to OPC West London for 80k September 2022. What are the prices now? Wouldn t buy a .2 GTS for not being N/A and turbo problems.

I picked up a .2 GTS at the back end of last year after selling my GT3 for something more useable everyday. The engine is great, yes its not N/A but for everyday its perfect and sounds pretty good as well. Dont let the turbo issues put you off, as usual its all internet scare mongering by 99% of people who have never owned one, just make sure its in/kept in warranty and you'll be fine.

Agree that the 991.2 turbo issues are overhyped. Great car. Have done 50k in mine without any issues.

Not really scare mongering tbh, there was a thread here not so long ago, plenty on the states forums, I actually remember reading one that the same person that it happened to had previously stated the same thing! Pays your monies and you takes your chances, both great cars but out of warranty would you feel as confident with a .2 and the bill you could be handed if unlucky?

I wouldnt be running one without warranty for sure, however same could be said for a good 90% of the cars across the Porsche range. Expensive cars come with expensive bills, its all part of the game. If your running on a shoe string budget a Porsche isnt the place to be and neither is any car in the same price bracket.

Looking to get into my first Porsche 911 and really fancy a 991.1 variant and think they look great in red or white. If I can shift a car (or two) before the end of the summer I think I may have to go and check one out.

I run mine without warranty (981 gt4) and I’d rather take the risk on a.1 out of warranty over a .2, 14k for turbos, should you need them isn’t something a .1 is going to hand you and by all accounts they’re proving very reliable, I prefer the na engine also so a .2 was always going to be a non runner for me anyway.
Anyways, as you say, if yours go their fixed for free so no worries.

Feels like scare-mongering. Lots of individuals who don't own a .2 restating the fact that the occasional 991.2 has had turbo problems to the extent that it is taking on a life of it’s own like some kind of urban myth creating the impression that it’s going to happen to all the .2’s at some point which is utter rubbish. Is it 10k or 14k to get the turbos replaced? Chinese whispers.
7 years old 22k .2 and no turbo issues. Car is magnificent and I prefer it to the NA GTS.
Both are great, both will hold the same value so don't buy to retain your money just find one you like and has an OPC warranty. .1 cars aren't immune to issues but if it's under warranty who cares what happens and to what degree? It's a non-issue whether it's a turbo going or an entire gearbox. You'll have a longer time under warranty with a younger car so there's a lot to be said for that too.
Drive one, buy one.

Well balanced post :-)
I was in the market for a 991 a few months ago and looked at both a .1 and a .2. Whilst I really liked the idea of a NA engine, the .2 just drove so much nicer, (well to me anyway) and the cabin was ina different class. Both are lovely cars but when I was searching the 991.2 was the one that ticked the most boxes.

As someone else said, there is at least one other thread on the 991.2 turbo issue. I’m not sure if it’s overblown but it happened to my car (GTS) within about a month of buying it. Cost (thankfully under warranty) was about £13k for one side but this included a coolant pump issue as well. I’m not sure if that is part of the turbo issue or separate. I’ve now got a PDCC fault as well. Bearing in mind Porsche had my car for about five months due to unavailability of the turbo parts, that’s two issues within about seven months of driving. However, I still think it’s a fantastic car. It ticks a huge number of boxes for the price and I think running costs are reasonable for what’s on offer (two year servicing can’t be ignored). I looked at other cars, even at a higher price bracket, but I immediately felt a better connection with the 911. Porsches are certainly not perfect and every generation seems to have an issue but there is a good reason people love them. I would say that their capability means they are less of an “event” than some cars but the flip side is that you can use them more often.
I think there has been some very fair and balanced comments on the thread about the .2, certainly no scaremongering.
Speaking to a specialist, he had seen numerous failures. He also had a 992 up for sale. I said hopefully it has been resolved with that. The response, that one had just come back from the OPC after having both turbos replaced.
For those who watch Petrol Ped, he unfortunately had the same issue with his new .2 GTS.
I agree with the general comments here, it's a fabulous car and probably a better daily driver than a .1. Run with a warranty and enjoy it.

Seen that video myself a while back, firmly planted my feet in the NA camp of the Porsche range and as I like to tinker a bit I seldom have ever had a car that will be able to pass for the Porsche warranty anyway, another reason to say NA.

They drive very differently.
In my view, the 991.2 is a swifter in normal day to day driving, and very rapid. However, on that favourite bit of road, there is probably much less of a difference in performance when using the full rev range on the 991.1 becomes more of an option.
Neither are anything other than fabulous cars, however they are becoming older now (oldest being c11 years) and the corresponding additional maintenance is to be expected. Its worth mentioning that they also mark the first models of the trend towards more complexity in cars, so will more likely require specialist support over their life and a bit of an unknown in terms of long term reliability.
To answer your original question. The 997 GTS was a small production volume car with significant variance to the 997 range. As the generations progressed the GTS has become another model in the 911 hierarchy, and in the context of being a 911, manufactured in increasingly large numbers. The residuals will most likely reflect this in the long run.
Good luck with your search.
Thoughts on this one at Ashgood?
Looks nice but is this a bit toppy price wise now?
Ashgood stuff normally very well priced - is this just where these are at now?

If you refer to the .1 at £70k then comparatively it looks about right. You see mid 50k mile cars at c£65k.
Interesting that the. 2 Carrera T they have is the same price. Nice options for the same budget.

I agree that 991.2 turbo issues are probably overblown, and I also agree that an OPC warranty largely mitigates the risk anyway.
However, as the earliest 991.2s get closer to the point where OPC warranties can no longer be renewed (15 years old), I do wonder whether values will come under more pressure than 991.1s. Buyers may be less comfortable owning a 991.2 without warranty cover, particularly given the well-publicised turbo concerns.
Early 991.2s are already around 10 years old. If you buy one today, keep it for three years and then sell it, the next owner will be thinking: "Fine, I can have two years of OPC warranty cover, but what happens when I come to sell it after that and it can no longer be renewed?"
You could make the same argument for a 991.1, of course. The difference is that market perception seems to be that the 991.1 is the simpler and potentially safer car to own without a warranty. Whether that's actually true is a separate debate, but perceptions can affect values just as much as reality.
