Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Last night a friend started up his Boxster and when he turned on the Xenons, there was a bit of a delay and then only intermittent flickering sort of alternating between the two units, like a stroboscopic semaphore. I've read that quite often the ignition switch is suspect, but with a couple subsequent light switch rotations the phenomenon stopped. Earlier in the evening the top was down when a brief rain shower occurred. Could excessive moisture in the interior possibly have caused the problem, or is it an early indicator of something that will get worse?

POST 2Original post

Are you sure they were factory Xenons? I've heard more of these issues with aftermarket. Problems with the ballast. Sometimes temperature related. I suppose moisture/humidity could also come into play.

POST 3Original post

And...are you really from the Cayman Islands and talking about Boxsters? Wow, what are the odds of that happening?

POST 4Original post

The car was bought new (2001) base Boxster. Car sat a lot during the winter, and then there was the rain last night. Friend says it's working ok now after using the switch while driving home. After other research and his observations, the problem is likely dodgey contacts in the light switch, so perhaps he'll (we'll) take it out some day, pop it apart and clean it up. Thanks for the reply, and if you have further insights let me know.

POST 5Original post

Nah on the first part. Just interested in getting a Cayman S in about a year and thought the location would be amusing. Someone at pedrosboard has their location set to the middle of the Atlantic.

POST 8Original post

At this point I think it was some oxidation on light switch contacts from sitting around all winter.* Thanks anyway. *Not sure about my syntax here. It seems to read like, "Throw the baby downstairs some candy."
