The PDK is fantastic, the oil was changed in it at 60,000 miles.

Looks lovely and only you can make the final decision, personally I’d change the diamar interior package to the carbon Matt finish, ditch the racetex extras and upgrade to the 18 ways seats.

As I am old and fat, I feel it is time to switch to a car where I can get in and out without rolling across the pavement, and I am considering a 911 spec'd as a GT rather than a 'Ring special.
I've done a config.
https://porsche-code.com/PTVMJVK9
The approach is:
- I'm inside it, not looking at it, so almost none of the external trim is needed
- conversely, I want the interior to be as cossetting as possible
- I want to go long distances in comfort, so none of the pops 'n' bangs extras are needed, esp sport chrono
Summary
- base model, no power mods
- nice colour combo but not PTS
- comfy chairs
- all the leather
- Bose (is Burmeister worth the uplift ?)
Should I strongly consider any other options ?
I find the cabin fitout options to be incomprehensible. Do I need Exclusive Interior Package or Interior Package Leather or Extended Exclusive Interior or... I guess this is one topic that has to be done in the showroom with the sample kits, but I'll gladly take any recommendations.
Cheers.
I can't help with what is worthwhile. I like your spec a lot, looks really nice.
I am a fan of the brown wood with a cognac interior, but that is a very personal thing.
Looks lovely and only you can make the final decision, personally I’d change the diamar interior package to the carbon Matt finish, ditch the racetex extras and upgrade to the 18 ways seats.
Sport chrono is also worth considering as is the sports exhaust.
Front lift is regularly discussed and I’d probably say that it’s not needed on a Carrera (another personal preference) and I could also do without active cruise (but it is a requirement on my daily 😂)
I’ve basically advised you what I’d have so please feel free to totally ignore everything! Whatever spec you go for I’m sure you’ll not be disappointed!
Burmester is a big improvement over Bose. That would be the first box I would tick. Especially for a “comfort spec” car.
The other thing I would want to investigate is which wheel and tyre combo produces the least tyre noise. I would suspect the least sporting possible, smallest diameter highest profile tyres, but that is a guess.
Nice car, rare spec

Will make a massive difference
I m a fan of the purity and simplicity of the base models - lighter as well. That’s how 911s used to be - and more than most people would ever need on the road these days.
Like the spec and colours. Bose, Sports Seats + and PSE are about all the extras I might want.
Such a shame that the Manual gearbox isn’t available.
Colours and the interior detail aside, that's pretty much how I'd spec a new 911 - in fact I did that the other week (although I did add SportChrono just for the look of the dash). In particular, OP, you've gone for the standard wheels - I think they look great on the 992, and better than any 20/21 combo.
But it's your car so spec it how you want. Now that a reasonably decent level of equipment comes as standard, there's nothing 'essential' you need to add.
Thanks everyone, interesting points.
Koln - That was my thinking on the base spec too; it's 400bhp, I have never been on the public road in a 400bhp car and thought 'this could definitely do with a bit more shove'.
And agree on the smaller spec wheels / taller tyres.
Mowley - I think I'll find a dealer with a Burmeister and a Bose in stock and go and play some bangin' toonz, perhaps Mahler's 5th, see how noticeable the difference is.
Trufit - yeah, I rather clicked at random for the smaller interior finishes after the main colour, I'll have to see them in person. Hadn't thought about the lift. I've had it on a Huracan where it was invaluable on some of my regular urban routes, but I've not had it on previous 911s and not really missed it - do you think the 992's are a sufficiently low clearance that it should be considered ? Many aggressive speed bumps near me, but I don't have any sloping garage access issues to deal with.
Defo view the colour samples at the Porsche centre. The leather is very different to the configurator when it comes to cognac. If you are treating yourself to Exclusive leather there are more colours to choose from. Cohiba in the flesh looks more like Cognac in the configurator. Cognac looks more sandy coloured in the flesh and is not to be confused with Heritage cognac.
Here’s a pic of cohiba…

Lift is very popular and considered by many, a requirement on anything with the lowered PASM. I don’t have it and haven’t missed it on my GTS, speed bumps have never been an issue and I’ve yet to encounter a ramp or car park that causes a problem - I would spec lift on a GT3 though!
This being Pistonheads, please make sure the spec you order is with the consideration of the second or third owner.
Also if speccing carbon ceramics please make sure these are never used and boxed for the next owner!

If you buy this, call me the moment you decide to sell - I'm serious.
P.S. But I must insist on the 18-way seats.
Incredible a base Carrera is a £126k even when sympathtically specified. Nice spec I really like but i'd go for the heritage cognac and have the centre air vents and slats in leather too
Ha, Churchie, will do!
Djit / Mog / IMI, thanks for the steer on the interior colour. It's definitely the darker shade I had in mind, so I guess I need to think Cohiba rather than Cognac.
I'll tinker with it a bit more then send it off to my local dealers and see which one seems keenest, though having just seen the Porsche Q1 results I'm rather expecting them to come and pick me up in a sedan chair and carry me into the showroom with a trumpet fanfare.
Sadly they won't roll the red carpet out and will try and up sell you into a more expensive 911 etc. At £126k still worth configuring an S in your lovely gentleman spec to see the difference in price and pushing for a 10% discount on the more expensive model which I doubt you'll get on a base 911. Defo worth calling a few OPCs too. If I was buying today I'd get the base 911 or maybe an S too I think they look nicer than the more expensive models

I spoke to a couple of OPCs in recent weeks would quite williningly discount a lightly spec'ed new factory order base Carrera by at the very least the cost of the 1st year VED. I think 10% off could be achieve with hagling

I've not looked at new Porsches for a while in UK. Just went online and there are 10 pages of whatever model you lke really in stock with del miles inc Gt3 and GT3 RS, turbo 50 years you name it its available. How times change
I like the ventilated seats on my GTS - handy if, like me, you’re a bit overweight and sweaty. Also the heated wheel is essential if you’re driving in winter and the sunroof is great for dry days and I pretty much always have it open.
I’ve got the -10mm PASM and no front lift but have never hit a speed bump so it’s not something I’d spec myself.
Definitely a light coloured leather for me as the black interiors are miserable places to spend time and feel like a slightly more pricey Audi.
I’d change the silver internal trim as it doesn’t go with the tan, either dark, or the green body coloured / painted option would look better.
The increased comfort of the 18 way seats also seem to be a consistent theme on these.
I bought a 2020 base spec 992 C2 new in Adventurine green and hounds tooth manual seats, for £85k brand new. Surprised they are now £40,000 more expensive.
It has now done 80,000 miles, Porsche have looked after it. my local tyre place has done the tyres.
Servicing has been annual or 16,000 to 20,000 miles. Average bill was £350 now £500 for oil and filters. Tyres have lasted about the same at around £800 for 4 good ones.
It is still on its original brakes and discs, which have some way to go. Nothing has needed replacing, possibly because it has been used regularly.
It is garaged so no UV issues.
It has been the cheapest car I have ever owned if you factor in the depreciation, nothing has gone wrong and it is still in mint condition, driving like the day it was new.
I often see 32mpg and my dragy app records 0-60 regularly at 3.6 seconds. Not at the same time.
I think Sports Chrono is £2k of snake oil, having driven most of the other 992 models over the last 6 years. The sports exhaust is more snake oil in my opinion.
It also doesn't feel much slower off the line than any other of the other models as the torque boost comes in very quickly from the slightly smaller turbos. At over 100 mph, the other will have it but I dont care about that.
The PDK is fantastic, the oil was changed in it at 60,000 miles. The C2 comes with the advantage of solid engine mounts too as opposed to the potentially problematic dynamic ones that appear to me made out of chocolate despite numerous revisions.
I though the only worthwhile option apart from the color was a Heritage interior which looked very nice indeed, some of the retro designs looked superb, albeit pricey at the time, so I stuck with the standard retro cloth seats.
When it came time to change it, I decided to keep it. I didn't extend the warranty, as in my opinion, it probably wont go wrong the way I use it.
One of the best cars I have ever owned.

Commented on your car before, but in my mind this - along with a manual T - is peak 911. Enough power, sensible sized wheels and all the spec you need. Keep it simple. A clever buy that has done you well.
IMI - that's a good tip on haggling an S spec down. The S version is about 18k more, 'because we can', so I'll take both specs in and see.
The cohiba (and that very nice blackberry, though that would need a different exterior colour I think), are in the extended leather range, for another 9k. You can see why they're the highest unit margin volume manufacturer.
Duster - Nice spec, and experience, and very much along the lines of what I am trying to achieve. Your 85k is 110k in today's money, accoring to the BoE, so the Porsche 'our customers have loads of money and don't care about the price' strategy, which is now biting them in the ass, has added about 15% on top.
I'm adding 18-way and Burmeister, and I think I've ticked every leather box, so OPCs here we go.
Burmeister has been discussed several times on here - normally concluding that the cabin acoustics and road noise provide questionable benefit in a 911.
Most recently here…….

I’d 100% agree with that.
I’d spend the money on 18 ways and other creature comforts over Burmeister….you literally use the 18 ways every second you are in the car. Smallest wheels are definitely the way to go.
Lovely spec and like the overall rationale for keeping it minimal and comfort focussed.
Another +1 on the 18-way seats. I've had them on a previous MacanS and assumed 14-way comforts on a Cayenne GTS I changed into would cut it. I was very wrong. Same with a loaner Macan I had with comfort seats - I always feel like I'm sitting on it rather than in it. When I was on the search for my 992, the 18-way filter was the first box I ticked and no regrets either for my local commute or 5hr trips up to the Lake District.
Listening to a good quality sound system in a moving 992 is like listening to one in a tropical thunderstorm if you ask me.
The Burmester option is therefore a pointless expense IMHO.
The 992 is not a quiet car. Headphones would be the only solution for an audiophile.
Most of the noise comes from the enormous rear tyres, rotating almost immediately behind the driver and passenger producing a loud roar.
The best way to improve the stereo experience is to improve the sound insulation between the raer arch liner and the inner wheel tub.
I have been meaning to do that for the last 6 years, must get around to it.
Sorry, I just realised that this thread has not been commented on for a few months until yesterday, so no point me adding my contribution, as you've already ordered - Enjoy the new car when it arrives!
