I was looking at offset as setting the wheels out away from the hub but some wheel pictures seem to show the opposite.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I started off wanting to get the 5 spoke Carrera Classic wheels for my '03 Boxster like on my Cayman. I have not been able to find any 17 inch ones which is the size it has now but some 18 inch wheels are popping up. Owners manual calls for either 18x7.5 offset 50mm/18x9 offset 52mm OR 18x8 offset 50mm/18x10 offset 47mm and I am seeing variations of that are all over the spectrum. One thing I don't like about the looks right now is that the wheels are inset too far unlike my Cayman. The factory wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport comes right to the edge of the wheel opening whereas the Boxster sets back probably 1.5 inches inside. I found a set at a real good price but the amount of offset might be screwed or it might set them right out where I want them. That set is 18x8 offset 57/18x10 offset 58. Is that too much offset for the '03? After looking at some pictures, I have a question: I was looking at offset as setting the wheels out away from the hub but some wheel pictures seem to show the opposite. So, someone 'splain it to me.

POST 2Original post

I can't answer your question about spacers because, frankly, I've never understood why they are used. I did, however, put 18" wheels on my '99 986. They are from a 993 wide body and fit perfectly with no spacers. There is plenty of room and nothing rubs. I like them because they look similar to the stock 17" wheels that came on the car originally. Here are the wheel specs: Rear: 18x10 (993.362.140.03 ET40) Front: 18x8 (993.362.136.01 ET52) Tried to post a pic but the site won't accept the jpg for some reason. The file is not too large so I'll try again some other time.

POST 3Original post

Thanks. Do you think that 18x8 offset of 57 front and 18x10 offset of 58 would be too wide? I don't believe I asked about spacers. Don't really like them, like you.

POST 4Original post

I should have said I can't help you with offsets instead of spacers. Sorry.
