Perhaps doing that with oil analysis at service to check for the coating coming off.

As I understand it, Americans have developed a system for inspecting for wear that's more involved than just sticking a camera in there that can be done once a year.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As per the above two episodes and the expiration of the 10 year warranty on 991 GT3 engines, is this the end of Porsche just throwing new engines at the problem? As I understand it, Americans have developed a system for inspecting for wear that's more involved than just sticking a camera in there that can be done once a year. Perhaps doing that with oil analysis at service to check for the coating coming off. I also understand it seems to be the intake cam that wears out being on the top, Ian from Prepworks suggesting that a thicker oil than Porsche stipulate could also extend the life of the afflicted parts. A £10k bill is never welcome but as it usually is with these things, repairs and workarounds usually get figured out and it's a better pill to swallow than a £45k new engine.

POST 2Original post

You can extend the warranty to 15 years though, some of the GT3s will start to drop out soon but little while longer for the RS yet.

POST 3Original post

Posted the above on the Matt Armstrong thread the other day, uncanny both have the same issue at similar miles.
